book store suggestion
I just noticed the sportssuck.org store for the first time. What a great selection of books. I had no idea so much was out there. I'd like to make a suggestion to add to the store: Our Guys by Bernard Lefkowitz. It's the true story of how a town will rally behind its local athletes against all odds-...

Re: I Have A really Bad Feeling That Something Is Coming Dow
I think I was "screened" at login the other day...I got a message saying that I had failed to successfully log in too many times (even though I hadn't failed at all... it was my first try), & I had to solve THE WORST captcha I've ever seen on the internet. (Those 6's, B's, 8's & S'...

Re: An Interesting Social Experiment
1) I would have asked to designate the back of the room for rabid anti-sports nuts (like myself. I have zero interest in sports, but I am interested in in diminishing their stranglehold on the world). The illusion of only having two choices (for/against, Republican/Democrat) tends to make issues see...

Re: Anti-sports movie accepted into D.I.F.F., nominated for
Thanks guys. Being nominated is totally rewarding, but my ego could live off the good words alone. 1981, don't sell yourself short...if you make the movie that you really want to watch, you'll be happy with the results. Also, I've probably made 25 movies in my life, & none of them are close to t...

PC died--Any other video producers here?
I just lost my work machine. Great story. I needed a power strip, so I took the surge protector off my computer & forgot to put it back. Lightning struck nearby the other day & my power supply blew up. So did my motherboard. And my CPU. I'm afraid to find out if the hard drive & graphics...

Re: Anti-sports movie accepted into D.I.F.F., nominated for
Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things here after my early absence.....things got a little busy with the film fest. Also, my computer died. (R.I.P.). But I've got a temp computer, I'm back from the festival, & it went really well. My movie The High Five was nominated for a Michigan Fi...

Re: 2011 State of the Union Address
It's pretty disturbing, but so far it's nowhere NEAR as disturbing as Our Guys http://www.amazon.com/Our-Guys-Bernard-Lefkowitz/dp/0375702695/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298662803&sr=8-1 I had to read it in college. It's the true story of a high school baseball team gang raping a mentally retard...

couple of questions
Man's progress is a story of devolving physical strength & evolving intellectual prowess. The toughest modern football player couldn't hope to win a fight with the average caveman, but as dumb as the jock might be he can easily out-think the caveman. This is an indication that the body is becomi...

Re: Playing games with balls
Great post, ChrisOH. People are childlike in their admiration of sports. Their fascination with an unchanging thing probably does have something to do with their development into adults who can't handle progress. Now I'm going to bend the rules of the site, because I feel the need to illustrate a po...

Re: 2011 State of the Union Address
Chris, I'm reading a book called Until It Hurts: America's Obsession With Youth Sports & How it Harms Our Kids , and your post could have been taken right from the pages. Only 2 chapters in, I'm reading about some horrible things parents will do to ensure their child is the next famous date-rapi...

Re: Anti-sports movie accepted into D.I.F.F., nominated for
In my personal fantasy solution, sports would be like they were in the days of gladiators: jocks locked away from the rest of society & released to play for the richest people. Sort of like Michael Vick's dogs. Isn't that what they turn into eventually, anyway? If only the wealthy could go to sp...

Earl, that's a pretty impressive program. Thanks for posting it. It seems like such a clear program that it should be the status quo. In fact, the only complaint I have is when Lawler says, "Iâ??ll go head-to-head with someone from any curriculum and defend ours as the most important at the sch...

Re: 2011 State of the Union Address
I've never heard about the Kennedy Marches, but it's a pretty fascinating anecdote. Especially with the data charts. Wow...50 miles? I'm a walker by nature & a bike rider by choice. I didn't even get a driver's license until I was in my mid-twenties...I just really like fresh air. But once I une...
