Article I wrote, for anyone who is interested

Recently, I wrote an article about my experiences in a fundamentalist Christian church in the early 1990's, and why I ultimately left. I haven't had the article published anywhere, as it's really a first draft to test out my abilities as a writer. It's about 12 pages long in MS Word. The working tit...

Re: Happy Birthday, ChrisOH!

Happy (belated) Birthday, ChrisOH! Congrats on becoming a "Maniac." Thanks, and congrats on the "Fanatic" status that I believe you recently achieved. And hey, just think - the next day after eating some sports themed food, with the push of a button, you get to flush a little pi...

Re: Nephew's football practices

Yeah, they probable believe that JEEEEEEEZZZZZUUUSSSSSSS is going to protect these small children from severe injuries and they'll all grow up to be athletic super-stars like the Biblical Sampson, or some shit like that! Uh huh! We all remember what happened to Sampson who did all his thinking with...

Re: Happy Birthday, ChrisOH!

Thanks Abitagirl!

Actually, my wife graduated from Ohio State, so she'd love that cake too, even though she really doesn't care much about football!

Re: ChrisOH Is Now A MANIAC!!! Congratulations!!!

Thanks! Love that version, Fatman -- I'd not heard that one, only the original "Flashdance" tune! I'll gladly substitute the "he" for "she", but I will draw the line at sitting on a stool in a provocative position and getting water dumped on me! (No one here wants to se...

Re: Nephew's football practices

Only 8 years old??? Well, at that young age, with their frail bodies, I hope it's only Touch Football instead of Tackle Football. But, probably not! If a kid want's to get into sports, I think that at that young age, either basketball or baseball would be safer. Of course, I prefer no sports at all...

Nephew's football practices

My 8-year-old nephew decided he wanted to try youth football this year. My sister-in-law told me that he has practice FOUR days a week -- three weeknights and a Saturday morning. That seems like a heck of a lot of practices for a team of 8-year-olds! Granted, it's summer vacation now, and hopefully ...

Re: Happy Birthday, ChrisOH!

Thanks, guys...Earl, I wouldn't mind having those chocolate and peanut butter "buckeyes" from that OSU cake! (Incidentally, I don't know if those are popular outside of Ohio, but they're delicious -- pretty much like a Reese's Cup shaped like the (inedible to humans) nut of our stat...

Re: Lost interest in sports

It's not enough to merely stop. The logical conclusion is to state it openly to those around you. The quality and character of virtually every sport has gone way down anyway. I think that one has to be away from it in order to TRULY understand just how absurd it really is. Hello Jockocaust! I prett...

Re: Runaway Train by Soul Asylum dedicated to missing or los

Just heard "Runaway Train" on the radio in the car yesterday, and commented to my wife how I hadn't heard it in quite awhile (it was a very big hit in about the early 1990's, I believe). Excellent song, and thanks for posting the lyrics, Fat Man! I hadn't thought about it as being dedicate...

Re: Is sporthate for males?

PinkSportsHate: I would guess that as sports have traditionally been a "male" thing, that many women are simply indifferent to sports (as my wife is), since their lack of interest would not likely cause them to be social outcasts. A man who doesn't watch sports, at least in America, is muc...

Re: Lost interest in sports

Hello Ex Fan! I'm glad you've found more interesting and important things to do with your time! Funny, isn't it, that the things "socceristas" think gay or nerdy are things that might actually help you learn something or make you use your mind, instead of watching people play a game that a...

Re: Pseudo-Science Bullshit On National Geographic Channel!!

I was looking at the TV listings this morning and I saw this one for the National Geographic Channel. Ancient X-FilesEpisode: Secrets of the Dark Arts (First Aired: January 24, 2011) A sacred golden box that may hold the Ten Commandments and the spirit of God. 9:00 - 10:00 AM NGC (74) Gee! I though...

Re: Hey! Please Come Back I_like_1981 We All Miss You!!!

The World Cup that's been in the news lately is the Women's World Cup, which apparently is held the year after the men's World Cup. The US team lost the final game to Japan, which touched off a few articles online bemoaning how the US just blew a chance to really promote girls' soccer here in Americ...
