AGREED.wibberley wrote:Id like to nuke to hell every sports stadium
But sports stadiums do not necessarily have to be used for the sole purpose of sporting events,
for example they can be used for music concerts too.
The possibilities are ENDLESS, although most of these gigantic stadiums like the Wembley
(which bears a resemblance to your username, btw )
are used just for sports and nothing else.
Such stadiums SHOULD be nuked.
Well, for me, just certain sports fans, the most intolerant and hateful, deserve such treatment, wibberley wrote:everyone who likes sports
however not all sports fans are such horrible people who conform to the jock stereotype.
An example of a decent sports fan would be our old member Andy
who was trying to disassociate himself from the jock stereotype he was being unfairly subjected to by informing us of his charitable work in Africa.
Sadly it didn't seem to work
and he left us, his final message being a sad and defeated one.
So I cannot agree with dat.
I think by saying this, you are alienating several members of the board.wibberley wrote:including board games, especially chess and all electronic games
Including myself - I enjoy the odd game of chess and
when I feel like it, sometimes will play the old video games at the arcade to remind myself of my younger days, when arcade games were very much the new, in thing. This was the early to mid 1980's.
Do not start throwing out hate towards all things in a hope of gaining support or attention
as several of the things you have listed are keen hobbies of the board members here.
Particularly electronic games; we have a few devout gamers on here,
one of whom is the forum admin.
Be careful what you attack; this is not the HATE EVERYTHING board.
This is SPORTS SUCK, try to stay on topic.
Wait a moment... I thought this was the POP MUSIC SUCKS thread?wibberley wrote:Id like to nuke to hell also anyone who listens to rock music as it sucks.
Now we have gone to slating ROCK music! Please be more consistent with the topic titles you give.
You have just expressed a wish to nuke me to hell
as I am a keen fan of rock music, particularly the 1970's.
I like Aerosmith, Queen, Christie, Hawkwind, Roxy Music and the Sweet. I also like Free.
I have been away from the boards for some time and have seen some changes round here; NONE of which are that good. I shall look into this later.
I am also not familiar with you; you are new here. This is the first post of yours I have seen,
and you have said that you wish to nuke me to hell.
I am hurt, you know.
I hate to say it, but this hasn't been the BEST and most INFORMATIVE post I've seen.
You have basically just expressed a wish to annihilate about 90% of the people in the world including most of our forum members.
Is there anything you DO like?
Goodbye.

Let me tell you something Katrina.I think you have hit the nail on the head when you effectively say I will alienate 90% of everyone.Since when did appeasing others come into it'I simply stated what I thought. I am 44 years old .I live alone in what I consider to be a fine town house where I have lived for the past 18 years.I am a classically trained 'albeit, amateur pianist.I have woodworking workshop where I make my own furniture.Since I was 11 I have collected vintage gramophones and phonographs and have a large collection of these plus over 1000 old records principly of jazz and dance music from the 1920s and 30s of which music I am particularly fond of.I regularly go out alone to the ballet ,the opera and the theatre and ocassionally ,the cinema.I also collect vintage films, particularly silent films and have several movie projectors to show them on.I DONT OWN A TELEVISION BUT DO HAVE A VINTAGE RADIO FROM THE 1930S.My house is decorated in amixture of edwardian style and art deco ornamentation. And guess what! Everyone thinks I:m wierd.I have abath every day .I dont smoke.I am very practically able.I just hate all games and music after 1950 and nobody seems to be able to handle that.Id like to have friends to go to the opera etc with, but nobody I knows is into anything remotely like that. But I am happy with what I am doing and think it is great.

wibberley, I don't think you're weird at all. You sound like you have a very active mind. You no doubt have used your mind more than I've used my own. I'm always impressed by people whose interests are varied and who have a lot of hobbies. Sometimes it's hard to not follow the crowd. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

Well wibberley, I too enjoy the life in the past. It's awesome. I damn well like it, what with some of the shitty music and programming we're getting today. I particularly despise all modern music. I can't help but retch when I hear teenage-orientated bands like Paramore and JLS come on as they're just aimed at brainless sheep who want to see epic music videos and get loaded at concerts! Modern music sucks balls. Here is what music has come to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa6qpgLvH30
(This song was called out for being crap by a sports-liking visitor to this site, SportsGuy92, who provided the link. I have not yet had the chance of speaking to this SportsGuy92 but he sure has a good sense of judgement between decent music and crap music, something which is lacking in a lot of today's youth.)
There's nothing bad about not smoking! Never tried it, and never will. I don't want my lungs to end up like they've been stuck over the funnel of an old steam train!
Well, I hate all music released after 1989. That's for sure. I too have a collection of old records but these are mainly from the 1970's and 1980's. You specialise in older music than I do. But that's good! Keep yourself well distanced from the shitty charts of today! It's great you don't follow the crowd. Hell, society has become so sheepish and bigheaded; all people want to do is show off about "da newest gadgitz". Boring! I take it you don't have a Facebook. Well neither do I. These social networking sites can lick my arse hole!
I am only 28, therefore I would apparently have more of a responsibility to be trendy and keep in line with the newest fashion to pick up the nice women and enjoy my young years which should be colourful and light-hearted, following what is popular. However, I choose not to! We're called free thinkers. We go our own way with things, because we have interests separate to the mindless herd and wish to make them known.
Keep up the collection of old stuff, Wibberley. You're more than OK in my book.

Honestly,Earl,I have triedto follow the crowd. When I was 22 and I had never had agirlfriend I seriously tried to get into rock music to try and redeem" myself,as it were.Having studied ,and still are, studying music theory I have a certain empathy with all music. But any modern music I can only take in seriously small doses. At the time,I was getting to know someone who was seriously into The Stones and Bob Dylan'I know they have an enormous following but try as I might, and I did try my hardest,I just couldnt for the life of me even find any oof it remotely musical much to the amasement of my friend. When, however, when I PLAYED HIM 2cotton club stomp" BY dUKE eLLINGTONS ORCHESTRA which is as good a record by as good a band as you can get on my 1927 HMV cabinet gramophone he went livid and stormed out saying Ill never get a girl while ever I listen to THAT!And he was right,I havent.Former conservative politician Edward Heath was the same, but it didnt stop him becoming Prime Minister.

As for me, I like classical music such as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc. etc. you name it. But I also like rock.
One of my favorite rock singers is Meat Loaf. I can identify with Meat Loaf.
I was born September 30,1951 and he Meat Loaf was born September 27,1947. His real name is Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday) but better known by his stage name Meat Loaf.
When he was growing up, he was a fat kid with an abusive father.
I grew up with an abusive stepfather who would sometimes beat up on my mother and I when he was drunk. Also, I got fat during my teenage years.
So, I can identify with Meat Loaf.
Here is a You Tube video of one of his songs.
Meat Loaf - Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37GrbCUvZEM
I know you don't like rock, so you probably won't listen to the song on the video.
But here are the lyrics to the song.
Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are
Meat Loaf
The skies were pure and the fields were green
And the sun was brighter than it's ever been
When I grew up with my best friend Kenny
We were close as any brothers than you ever knew
It was always summer and the future called
We were ready for adventures and we wanted them all
And there was so much left to dream
And so much time to make it real
But I can still recall the sting of all
The tears when he was gone
They said he crashed and burned
I know I'll never learn
Why any boy should die so young
We were racing, we were soldiers of fortune
We got in trouble but we sure got around
There are times I think I see him peeling out of the dark
I think he's right behind me now and he's gaining ground
But it was long ago and it was far away,
Oh God it seems so very far
And if life is just a highway,
Then the soul is just a car
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And when the sun descended and the night arose
I heard my father cursing everyone he knows
He was dangerous and drunk and defeated
And corroded by failure and envy and hate
There were endless winters and the dreams would freeze
Nowhere to hide and no leaves on the trees
And my father's eyes were blank
As he hit me again and again and again
I know I still believe he'd never let me leave,
I had to run away alone
So many threats and fears, so many wasted years
Before my life became my own
And though the nightmares should be over
Some of the terrors are still intact
I'll hear that ugly coarse and violent voice
And then he grabs me from behind
And then he pulls me back
But it was long ago and it was far away,
Oh God it seems so very far
And if life is just a highway,
Then the soul is just a car
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
There was a beauty living on the edge of town
And she always put the top up and the hammer down
And she taught me everything I'll ever know
About the mystery and the muscle of love
The stars would glimmer and the moon would glow
I'm in the back seat with my Julie like a Romeo
And the signs along the highway all said,
Caution! Kids At Play!
Those were the rights of spring and we did everything
There was salvation every night
We got our dreams reborn and our upholstery torn
But everything we tried was right
She used her body just like a bandage,
She used my body just like a wound
I'll probably never know where she disappeared
But I can see her rising up out of the back seat now
Just like an angel rising up from a tomb
But it was long ago and it was far away,
Oh God it seems so very far
And if life is just a highway,
Then the soul is just a car
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
And objects in the rear view mirror
May appear closer than they are
She used her body just like a bandage,
She used my body just like a wound
I'll probably never know where she disappeared
But I can see her rising up out of the back seat now
This is not exactly a "pop tune" and I don't like pop tunes either.
I prefer songs that tell stories, songs that have meaning.
Like this one from 1968 by Mary Hopkins.
Those were the days my friend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5pkkAhETYg
Those were the days my friend
Mary Hopkin
Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And think of all the great things we would do
Chorus:
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me?
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
Through the door there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same...
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
These are songs that tell stories, song with great melodies, songs that are considered classics.
So, not all rock music is trashy pop music.
Every time I hear that song by Meat Loaf, it brings tears to my eyes.
Also, as for video games . . . . .
I have a TRAIN SIMULATOR on my computer.
It's more than just a game. It's like operating a real locomotive, driving a train through some really beautiful scenery. I have American railroads, Japanese railroads, German railroads, the ICE or Inter Continental Express an electric locomotive pulling passenger cars and it goes up to 180 miles per hour. I also have the Heidi Express that goes through the Swiss Alps.
It's not a game, but a simulator and it take as much skill to operate as the real thing, and the slightest mistake can cause you to wreck a train.
I enjoy all the things from the past, like Renaissance art, and I enjoy listening to Opera, and all kinds of classical music.
But I also like to rock!
I'm fat and sassy! I love to sing & dance & stomp my feet & really rock your world!
All I want to hear from an ex-jock is "Will that be paper or plastic?" After that he can shut the fuck up!
Heah comes da judge! Heah comes da judge! Order in da court 'cuz heah comes da judge!

I agree, that one was pure unadulterated crap!!!
There is a lot of crap songs coming out these days.
But there are still some decent songs coming out as well. It's just getting harder to find anything now.

Re: pop music sucks
Well, I like 1981,it is certainly good you like music from the 70s and 80s as that is something others can connect or at least have empathy with ,the same as if you were into elvis ,and he got started over half a century ago and he is still being taken seriously today whereas the 20s stuff I like was old hat as soon as the twenties ended as were silent films as soon as the talkies arrived,so imagine how ludicrous people thought of them in the 70s when I first became interested even though only the same amount of time had elapsed since the 20s then as has elapsed from the beginning of elvis until now.So even back then, over 30 years ago, people thought the music I was listening to was ridiculous.IN THE MEANTIME i have become interested in opera which at least has current performances, but I HAVE NEVER MET ANY OF MY Peers who have been interested in that either. So you see although in many respects, people admire what I do ,it is in fact nothing that they actually do so they cannot connect as they would with some who played squash or football.

Re: pop music sucks
Do you have any links to 1920's music that I could listen to? Any old music is good in my book - the older the better. But I have not had the good fortune of hearing any 1920's stuff yet so perhaps you could enlighten me.wibberley wrote:Well, I like 1981,it is certainly good you like music from the 70s and 80s as that is something others can connect or at least have empathy with ,the same as if you were into elvis ,and he got started over half a century ago and he is still being taken seriously today whereas the 20s stuff I like was old hat as soon as the twenties ended as were silent films as soon as the talkies arrived,so imagine how ludicrous people thought of them in the 70s when I first became interested even though only the same amount of time had elapsed since the 20s then as has elapsed from the beginning of elvis until now.So even back then, over 30 years ago, people thought the music I was listening to was ridiculous.IN THE MEANTIME i have become interested in opera which at least has current performances, but I HAVE NEVER MET ANY OF MY Peers who have been interested in that either. So you see although in many respects, people admire what I do ,it is in fact nothing that they actually do so they cannot connect as they would with some who played squash or football.
YouTube is a good place to look. Type in your song name and chances are they'll have the song to listen to somewhere. But if it's that old, don't expect it to have many views at all. Mainstream music has clocked up millions of views in a few days and that is why I don't bother with it - because everyone else can't seem to resist it and forgets where all the classic music is. It seems today, being up-to-date with everything is the music fan's only concern.
So, I would like to hear one of these 1920's songs you are so fascinated with. Is that possible? I'll probably like it to. I can't resist old music but REALLY old music... should be even better for me.
See you later.

Re: pop music sucks
Well ,I like 1981,since I discovered youtube I found an amazing wealth of 20s music I had never heard before. It was like having a top quality collection at the click of a mouse. One particular record I enjoyed on youtube was entitled "Number Ten" playad by Fess Williams and his orchestra.Google that and see what you think. That record ,I would say, pretty much all that is emboddied in the best hot jazz of the period.
Re: pop music sucks
Fat MAN,I am sorry to hear you were beaten by your father as a child.Child cruelty at the hands of their parents is sadly endemic even today .If you like classical music I would recomend BBC Radio 3 which can be heard worldwide online.I would particularly reccomend "in tune" which is broadcast from 1700 to 1900 GMT.

I shall search for that song and tell you how I found it sometime.
I agree, YouTube can bring you a lot closer to the music you love and there is software about which allows you to download the audio for free.
That's what I do. I don't see the need to support the music industry if all the great bands have split up and my money's going towards funding crap like Rihanna and Soulja Boy.
So, I'll be checking out this "Number Ten". And keep up with the VERY old music. Because if we all submit to the influence of the modern charts then eventually there will be no need to have the old music still around and it will all be cast away! I can't let that happen. Not with the song I gave the link for in this thread being the epitomy of "cool music" today.
I advise you to check that link out, wibberley. You'll feel a lot better about your 20's stuff when you hear what music has come to today. Anyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size should be quickly put off by that one!
