The Story of Galileo Galilei - Re-enactment By Teenagers

Post by Fat Man »

OK, it's kind of corny, and kind of dumb, but what the Hell, it's cute!!!

I loved it!!!

Here is a YouTube video I'm sure I'm sure you'll all might enjoy. It was produced by teenagers wearing costumes and re-enacting the life and the trial of Galileo.

The Story of Galileo Galilei

Then after the end of the play, in a final segment they show some bloopers that are kind of funny.

And here is another video about Galileo.

Galileo Galilei Movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AokFuLxsEU0&NR=1

This is a brief documentary produced and narrated by a young kid.

You know, I was feeling kind of depressed, but then, I came across these YouTube videos produced by young kids, and it gave me a nice warm feeling inside hearing their young voices talking about Galileo.

It feels good knowing that there are still some young kids who are interested in academic subjects, and aware of how the Roman Catholic Church had tried to suppress scientific progress.

It sort of gives me some hope for the future, knowing that there are still young people who care about academics and science.

So, maybe there is still some hope for this country yet.

I'm ashamed to have to admit, that my generation, the baby boomers, that so many of us grew up to be real assholes! Yeah, I'm referring to people like Pat Robertson, and so many of these right-wing Fundamentalist Ecclesiass-holes wanting to insert Creationism into the science curriculum in our high schools.

Seeing these young people producing videos about Galileo makes me feel more hopeful for the future. Perhaps they might even get together and protest against the old-school mentality and against these idiots trying to screw up the science curriculum with their Creationist fairy tales.

Sometimes youth rebellion can be a good thing. Maybe these kids will be the wake-up call that we seriously need. One can only hope.

Anyway, here are a couple more YouTube Videos produced by some teenagers.

It's a kind of an amusing satire which I think is really cute. The second video includes the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

The Catholic Church, which was very powerful and influential in Galileo's day, strongly supported the theory of a geocentric, or Earth-centered, universe. After Galileo began publishing papers about his astronomy discoveries and his belief in a heliocentric, or Sun-centered, Universe, he was called to Rome to answer charges brought against him by the Inquisition (the legal body of the Catholic Church). Early in 1616, Galileo was accused of being a heretic, a person who opposed Church teachings. Heresy was a crime for which people were sometimes sentenced to death. Galileo was cleared of charges of heresy, but was told that he should no longer publicly state his belief that Earth moved around the Sun. Galileo continued his study of astronomy and became more and more convinced that all planets revolved around the Sun. In 1632, he published a book that stated, among other things, that the heliocentric theory of Copernicus was correct. Galileo was once again called before the Inquisition and this time was found guilty of heresy. Galileo was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1633. Because of his age and poor health, he was allowed to serve his imprisonment under house arrest. Galileo died on January 8, 1642.

This is a short clip from Stephen Hawking's Universe. It shows the same thing that we see happening today with fundamentalist and their denial of Evolution and other scientific discoveries. This was a period in time when the Catholic Church was as fundamentalist as some of todays Christian denominations. They learned their lesson and accepted Evolution about 40 years ago. Isn't it about time you did the same?

Bible passages that relate to Geocentrism:
Psalm 93:1, Psalm 96:10, and Chronicles 16:30 state that "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved." Psalm 104:5 says, "[the LORD] set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." Ecclesiastes 1:5 states that "the sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises."

Bible passaged that relate to Human Evolution:
Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image"
Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground"

And finally, two of my favorite YouTube Videos about Galileo, with music.

Galileo Galilei

Requiem for a dream with pictures of astronomy, Galilei's home, and Galilei himself.

Some might find the theme music "Requiem For A Dream" rather disturbing but I think it's cool.

And finally, I know I have posted this one before, but I think it deserves an encore.

A song about Galileo.

Galileo Galilei (Lyrics by Jugnutgut aka Rob)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VpX3lJ8jGo

And here are the lyrics to the song.

Galileo Galilei

He was a man of science
A giant of his day
He unraveled mysteries
Galileo Galilei

He looked thru the looking glass
And saw a new display
He saw the moons of Jupiter
Galileo Galilei

Oh Oh Galileo
Oh Oh Galilei
Oh Oh Galileo
Galileo Galilei

He studied spots on the Sun
His knowledge, he'd convey
He told us how and why things moved
Galileo Galilei

He said the Earth was not the center
That was not the way
It was the Sun and not the Earth
Galileo Galilei

Oh Oh Galileo
Oh Oh Galilei
Oh Oh Galileo
Galileo Galilei

Some did not approve
Of all he had to say
They said he must be silent
Galileo Galilei

He was a man of science
A giant of his day
He unraveled mysteries
Galileo Galilei

Well, that says it all.

Oh! Guess what!

I just discovered another music video about Galileo.

This one is rap! Yeah! That's right! Rap!

And here are the lyrics.

99 Problems (but my faith ain't one)
Galileo Galilei
Heliocrentism

D.R Productions

Deep reality problems, I feel bad for you son,
I got 99 problems, but my faith ain't one.

Us round the sun or the sun around us?
I posed this question and the church made a fuss.

Haters that say
He's a "star gazin' heretic",
if they had their way,
I'd be sippin' on some arsenic.

Pythagoras had proved our world was a spinnin'
I had empirical proof the church claimed I was sinnin,

When I offered them my telescope, the bitches refused,
'least I wasn't burned alive like the other accused.

I got beef wit clowns who discredit my theories.
The Pope's burnin' motherfuckas who be askin' him queries

I still believe in God, but my means is new,
All facts and observations, bitches, how 'bout you?

I don't know what you take me as,
Understand intelligence Galileo has,

I'm a fuckin' astronomer, I ain't dumb.
I got 99 problems but my faith aint one.

Hit me!

99 problems but my faith ain't one.
Deep reality problems, I feel bad for you son,
I got 99 problems, but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

Allow me to give a little explanation,
I found the truth after much examination,

I began to realize the nature of this world,
And the scripture's teachings all began to unfurl.

To truly know God, it was clear to me,
Gotta attempt to see things with mo' clarity.

Understanding the external we began on our way,
Gettin' closer to reality every day.

The external world helps comprehend internality.
Reason, logic, knowledge, and a sense of skepticality.

I ain't dissin' what the Bible has to say,
I'm just lettin' fools know, I found God my way.

Scripture's metaphorical, could be all wrong.
It's nothin' physical; the conclusions ain't so strong.

I stand by my theory about the earth and the sun.
I got 99 problems but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

Deep reality problems, I feel bad for you son,
I got 99 problems but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

Who wants ta' declare that everything's known?
God gave us our senses so that knowledge can be grown.

Holy scriptures don't err; it's provin' by Holy Ghost.
Hatin' on human reason, sayin' truth means the most.

Cause the world need to know, to listen, to learn.
God gave us reason, now it's our mofuckin' turn.

To do what is right and in knowledge put trust,
As a means of leading us to do what is right and just.

Seeing God as he is truly meant to be seen,
As a form of knowledge in the grasp of all human beings.

External knowledge gained by observational data,
Thusly leads to the internal, or our poppin' creata'.

External to internal is the ultimate key,
To reaching our damn deep reality.

Burnin' alive, or hangin's no fun.
I got 99 problems but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

99 problems but my faith ain't one.
Deep reality problems, I feel bad for you son,
I got 99 problems but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

99 problems but my faith ain't one.
Deep reality problems, I feel bad for you son,
I got 99 problems but my faith ain't one.

Hit me!

You're crazy for this one Copernicus!

It's your boy!

Haha...

WOW! It took me over an hour to type up the lyrics, having to pause the video so I could copy the words.
