I just lost my work machine. Great story. I needed a power strip, so I took the surge protector off my computer & forgot to put it back. Lightning struck nearby the other day & my power supply blew up. So did my motherboard. And my CPU. I'm afraid to find out if the hard drive & graphics card are ok. I figure the RAM is probably dead. Go ahead & get your laughs out....I know how dumb this looks.
So it's time for a new system. Anybody know of an off-the-shelf package I can pick up for under $1000 that can run 3D Studio Max & handle some really intense motion graphics sessions?
My old machine was a custom-built 2.8 Gb AMD Duo-Core with a stackable 1 Gb ATI graphics card, 2 Gh DDRAM & a cooling system that would bring the temperature in the room down a few degrees. It never had a problem or lagged in 5 years. I'd like to find something comparable. Any suggestions?
