A Game Magazine Outsells Time, Playboy & Sports Illustrated

Post by Lewis »

Most game magazines are dying a death. One, though, is not. It's the one that's owned by GameStop. Yes, it's Game Informer, and more people read Game Informer than you probably thought.

According to data released by BurrellesLuce, the mag has a monthly readership of 3,517,598. Which makes it the 12th most read magazine in the United States, ahead of more notable publications such as Time, TV Guide, Sports Illustrated, Cosmo, Newsweek, Playboy and Maxim.

If only other mags could be distributed so prominently across the US in the nation's largest games retailer!

I just love that it has outsold Sports Illustrated.

What's also notable is that in the top 25, only one is sports-related. :D

And not just the Game Magazine, but another magazine often touted as a "nerdzine": National Geographic, at #5. 8) I love it.

On the other hand it's sad that the news magazines in the list, Time and Newsweek, didn't beat Sports Illustrated. :? (Maybe that's because there's so many of those types of magazines out there, that they compete with each other...if Time & Newsweek merged, they'd probably be in the top 5.)

What's kinda funny is the top three magazines are two AARP mags (senior citizens publication) and Reader's Digest (which is popular among older folks). Lots of magazine reading going on in those retirement homes!!
