Spam problem

Post by Skul »

Okay, I think it's obvious that we've been hit by some kind of spam virus or something. Other forums I go on have this problem, but it's nothing like what we've got here. Every day I come on here, I see some new spam bot posting crap. My other haunts have one every few weeks (in fact, one was hit today. It couldn't spam properly, though -- it used HTML tags).

It's possible that the sports fans are behind this, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions. However, judging by the way they have acted in the past, I'm not going to rule it out, either.

P.S. Eleventy-one posts! Whee!

I just had a thought -- is there a way to turn on image verification for users who want to register? As far as I know, that's the best defense you can currently have against spam bots.

So, Mr. Admin, if you can turn on image verification, do it!

I didn't know this forum had such a function. Thanks for the suggestion. I checked and it does and I turned it on. I hope that stops these spammers!

Yes.

First, you must wear the official Sports Suck! blindfold. Next, you must follow me through this doorway. No, that's not the buzzing of bees, you're imagining things. Next, you must ceremonially dip yourself in this vat of honey-smelling cleansing oil to make sure that you're properly purified before experiencing the glory of logging in as secretary -- we don't want just any dirty riff-raff off the street logging in, right? Next, take this stick and run around the room swinging it and yelling "Stupid killer bees! Take THAT! And THAT!" It's a ritual chant and dance that I'll have to excuse myself from the room for. With any luck, you will then be able to log in as secretary.

Good luck! :D
