Non-ignorant athlete/sports fan here- please read

I'm sorry, but I just got to say this . . . . .

I would like very much to see a total ban on sports, because sports is still wrecking my life for me!

Also . . . . . I don't care how polite Mr.SportsGuy92 is. Just by virtue of his being involved in sports, he's also responsible for wrecking my life.

In light of the preceding posts, I apologize for the serious but sincere tone of this comment. Fat Man, you have every right to say what you please about sports at this website because it was set up so that those of us who don't like sports or are critical of some aspects of sports culture could speak our minds. We're not all going to be of the same mind, nor should we. But I must object to your claim that SportsGuy92 is responsible for wrecking your life simply by virtue of partaking in a sport. He wasn't even born when you went through your terrible trauma in high school that resulted in the unpardonable crime that was committed against you in the mental institution, which was a total disgrace to the state of Texas. He wasn't even born until 25 years later. He is not a bad person but a nice kid, and he obviously sympathizes with you. Someday I could have a grandson who ends up playing football in high school. (Considering how crazy most of the people in this state are about football, you have to admit that this is within the realm of possibility, despite the fact that I am not a football fan.) Knowing both my daughters as well as I do, I know what values they would teach their children if they became mothers. So, I'm sure that even though a grandson of mine (if I ever have one) wanted to play a rough contact sport, he would still be just as sensitive about others as I am (or try to be). Would you say that my hypothetical grandson would be responsible for your suffering? Of course, you wouldn't. To say that SportsGuy92 is personally responsible for what happened to you is like saying that white Americans today are responsible for antebellum slavery and that all Germans born after World War II are responsible for the Holocaust. No one denies the reality of your suffering, and we try to understand. Save your anger for the next Samdaman or Harold or Captain America. I'm sure we'll get one eventually (if he'll only stay around).

Fat Man, Good luck with getting your benches back. Just don't use them as another excuse to be pissed at sports. Even if the UTEP athletic department is responsible, I'm sure they weren't trying to bully anybody

They do so without thinking!

The thought never occurred to them, that some people are elderly or disabled and need to sit down while waiting for a bus.

The very concept of a chair or bench for sitting on, is far too complex for their simple minds to grasp!

So, you're probably right. They didn't do it with the intention of bullying.

They did it because they are STUPID DROOLING SLACK-JAWED MORONIC KNUCKLE-DRAGGING IMBECILIC MONKEY-BOYS!!!

True, not all people in sports are vicious bullies. They're just dim-bulbs with a collective IQ exceeded by their shoe sizes.

But even if they aren't bullies, they can still hurt a lot of people because they are dangerously stupid!

So, they had the benches removed without thinking.

But then, people in sports are not known to be great thinkers!

They did make a bad decision, but if your benches that were taken away were in front of UTEP's, say, physics building would you be as mad? This scenario could have happened, even though those who are employed there obviously are highly intelligent. It's like Forrest Gump said, "stupid is as stupid does."

Well, first of all, people who are well educated usually think before they act, and they would take into consideration that some people are disabled and need to sit down while waiting for a bus.

It is mostly intellectuals who are activists for racial equality, and equal rights for men and women, etc. etc. and it is mostly intellectuals who are for protecting the rights of handicapped people.

So, I seriously doubt if a physics department or a math department, or an astronomy department would make a request to have bus stop benches removed from in front of their buildings, and would most likely make a formal complaint against such actions if brought to their attention.

No! Those who are into sports are worried about their image, and having old people and cripples like me sitting on benches in front of their precious sports centers would "make them look bad" as far as they are concerned.

Yeah! Well the sports culture already has a serious image problem. Those of us who are better educated do not think very highly of the typical jock, and those of us who have been badly hurt by the sports fanatics and the jocks, we have an even lower opinion of them.

So, these who are into sports seriously needs to clean up their act!

Of course, most of the redneck sports fans don't give a flying fuck!

I have said before that jocks should be ground up and made into lunch meat to feed the homeless.

But I think turning them into chocolate instead would be a better idea.

Of course, we could turn a lot of them into clay to be baked into bricks to build more homes for low income people.
