Thanks for the kind words, i_like_1981. I must say, though, that there have been times when I should have spoken out, but failed to do so. As a new moderator I was trying to find my own voice. After this episode with the 4chan spammers, I would think that some of us would learn a lesson and appreciate the civil critics and not ridicule them just because they defend sports. Simply disagreeing with us does not make them our enemies. No one likes to be personally insulted repeatedly. We should not merely become the mirror image of abusive sports fans.

Re: football player, Holocaust survivor
I know, I think Andy and Tony should be given a break. They're not bad people but they did seem to subtly lord themselves over the people on here by constantly making reference to how civil and tolerant they were being and that we were wrong for not taking their presence with a bit more agreement. But I guess they could make a good case out of that with all the abuse they were getting; the so-called "jocks" ultimately proved to be the good guys in that whole affair. I think they won that argument, and I helped give them the victory with my mad comments!Earl wrote:Thanks for the kind words, i_like_1981. Hey, i_like_1981, don't feel too bad about yourself. You're only human. At least you soon changed your mind.

Re: football player, Holocaust survivor
I had to. I felt like such a bastard after leaving that comment on the guestbook. I knew there was nothing to gain from it but I don't really think my comment on Gridiron deserved a ban. I didn't bash anyone but Harold (CincisUKFan) in that post yet Andy and Tony took it to heart themselves, which was not my intention. I got the feeling they were exaggerating the nastiness of my post and extending the contempt to themselves to further strengthen their argument, and if you go back on the Gridiron "Ban sports!" thread and read it, you will see it's nowhere near as bad as some of the brutal abuse Samdaman gave to the people on here, yet was never given a ban for until months of it had passed. We are too kind on this website.Earl wrote:Hey, i_like_1981, don't feel too bad about yourself. You're only human. At least you soon changed your mind.

I always seem to get Sesame Street and The Muppets mixed up. I would have to say I know the Muppets better and they've recently burst back into my good books with their rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody". I don't think they've lost their novelty quite yet!dickfilthy wrote:Well, i_like_1981, I do like a good Sesame Street joke, you see.
Oh yeah, getting mixed up again.
And I like the odd joke about the Eighties.

That's a good one. Here's an 80's joke you may or may not get:dickfilthy wrote:"Is that a Rubik's Cube in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?!!!"
How many letters are in the alphabet?

Well how about an 80's trivia quiz question then -
Who said the following quotes, and what 1981 movie are they from?...
"See, that's what happens every time you do coke, man, that's what happens..."
"Hey wait a minute man, every time I do coke you get on that 'every time I do coke' rap, man."

Cheech and Chong's "Nice Dreams". Released on the day I was born. Very funny one, although not exactly a cinematic great. And... Cheech and Chong themselves said the lines. (Oh, anyone know where I could see that film again? Believe it or not, the local HMV isn't exactly well-stocked on trashy 80's comedy films.)dickfilthy wrote:Ha ha!i_like_1981 wrote: How many letters are in the alphabet?

Anyways, now here's a question on 1981 from me: Who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981? With which song? (This was two months before I was born.)

By the way dickfilthy... I noticed that was your 81st post. Very appropriate that you should bring up some trivia about the year '81 in it. Was that intentional? Or was it a coincidence? Either way...
*looks at original topic title* Oh dear, we really have taken this thread too far out in our own direction haven't we? This is a serious subject matter. Perhaps we should have taken this light-hearted banter someplace else. I'm sorry Earl for doing this to your topic.

Hey, that was too easy - any quote with that many "mans" in it would have to be Cheech & Chong!i_like_1981 wrote:Cheech and Chong's "Nice Dreams".dickfilthy wrote: Well how about an 80's trivia quiz question then -

Well I did notice my posts were in the 80's now, but I didn't specifically notice that I had brought up some 1981 trivia in my 81st post though. Only someone obsessed with 1981 would notice that! Ha ha! But what a freaky coincidence.i_like_1981 wrote: I noticed that was your 81st post. Very appropriate that you should bring up some trivia about the year '81 in it. Was that intentional? Holy crap, you're kidding? That was just a random 80's quote that just popped into my head to use as a trivia question. I thought it was pretty freaky when I checked the date of it, and it was 1981. That was freaky enough. But now you say it was released on the day you were born? OMG, now it's just getting C-R-E-E-P-Y.i_like_1981 wrote: Cheech and Chong's "Nice Dreams". I mean, what are the odds of that!!!
Oh, hang on, the odds are only 1 in 365.
Hmmm, oh well, it's at least still mildly freaky then!

Re: football player, Holocaust survivor
I'd have been a real disappointment not to have noticed it! It won't be too long before some of our members actually do reach their 1981st post, so I'll have to make some comments then!dickfilthy wrote:Only someone obsessed with 1981 would notice that!

Oh really? My date of birth is up on numerous places on this site. I thought you'd already noticed it and found a film to ask me about released specifically on that day. If not, that is one hell of a coincidence; very, very appropriate you should have brought that film up! Whenever something was released/happened on the day I was born I tend to know about it instantly being a 1981 nut.dickfilthy wrote:Holy crap, you're kidding? Well, Britain actually won for once, which is a pretty rare occurrence. They didn't do bad last year but in 2008 there was some seriously unfair Bloc voting which involved all the old Soviet countries voting for each other. Such blatant rigging caused the famous voice of the program's commentary, Terry Wogan, to stand down from his position. I guess that put a lot of people off the show. His sense of humour always made it a bit more bearable for me; in fact, with him, I enjoyed it.dickfilthy wrote:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! - THE HORROR! -
