Introduction
Re: Introduction
Thank you all for the welcome for us new members. I too had to take PE in college, my disability was not considered severe enough to exempt me, that's why I had to do it in high school also. Failure and ridicule forced upon a diadvantaged youth was not considered however. I did have a small cadre of non-sports friends and we all had a good time together. I am glad I found such understanding folks worldwide to remind me I am not alone in my hatred of the attitude and stupidity of the worship of sports. I don't hate sports activities just the sick obsessive mania our culture has for it. I know I'm preaching to the choir!
Take care and bless you all (except the jocks)

Huh. One of the rare days I don't come on here (yesterday) and that's when we get new members.
Well, allow me to also welcome you to the board, greencom and Katrin. Good to see a fellow Glaswegian on here!

That's incredible! It borders on INSANE!!! If I ever need an example to illustrate unneccessary rigidity, inflexible adherence to rules, and outright stupidity, this will be it. That is a real shame. She should appeal to have her records corrected. And the coach should be exposed as the idiot he or she was. And then flogged. In public. &^%$#@!Earl wrote: Even though she was legally blind with retinitis pigmentosa, my wife was forced to play badminton in a required college PE class! (I'm not kidding about this!) Since she had no depth perception, she never could see the birdie. Even though the State Commission for the Blind had a case file on my future wife, the coach did not even bother to check to find out that she was telling the truth. As a result, my future wife, who had always excelled academically, received the only "C" she was ever given since kindergarten. Ludicrous!

Ray, that's nice of you to say that. Amazing, isn't it? But it was more than 30 years ago, and it happened before we met. At the time, though, I'm surprised that her parents, both of whom were teachers, didn't raise Cain with the university. Maybe she didn't tell them. I don't know. I didn't think to ask her if she did or not. Oh, well ...

Re: Introduction
Greetings, Greencom. Welcome to these forums.
I used to have a problem with sight myself, except it wasn't depth perception, it was severe astigmatism. I couldn't see more than 1.5 metres ahead of me clearly. It only got worse until finally someone noticed when I missed a ball entirely and it hit me in the face.

I thought you had given up, Greencom! You went quite a while without posting. We need to get more members for this site and we need them to stick with it, otherwise we're pretty fucked! Cause a lot less people seem tae hate the sports than I thought. I knew they were popular but I honestly expected at least 1,000 regular users on these forums. The truth can be disturbing!...

By no means have I given up! I have been venting across the forum, my latest has just been entered in the "Tales from the Sports Crypt" topic. I read them all and when someone (mostly sports fans) posts something that pisses me off I just have to respond, I hope this sits ok with the moderators, I don't try to bait anyone just to cause trouble but I can't let a brain dead jock bug us without a spirited response. Remember Katrin, the masses are asses, only a tiny number of people make the big differences in the world, the rest just go with the mindless herd. I think more people need to know this forum exists, I think you would see more of us if more knew we are here for them.
Take Care and bless you.

Re: Introduction
I know how it feels like to get hit right in the face by a ball. In my case I was sitting down in the bleachers specifically cuz I didn't want to play football in the gynmnasium or any other activity. Somehow somebody throws the ball too far and a speeding football hits me right between my eye and cheek. I was pissed, I get an injury even though I wasn't playing a sport(theres goes the term "sports injury).blackdog4444 wrote:Greetings, Greencom. Welcome to these forums.![]()

Re: Introduction
Yes, I too have had problems with flying balls in the past. If these stupid bastards could keep their balls away from my face for two minutes... we'd all have been a lot happier! And there was an incident in '88 that involved some dumb ass chick cracking me over the head with a tennis racket... suffice it to say, I wasn't the only one who got hurt that day! Shame to see not a lot has changed in PE since the 1980s and people who have no interest in sport are still being made to suffer it regularly.

Re: Introduction
Woo hoo Kat! You get the bastards!
I got bullied so much at High School back between the years 1977-82 for being crap at sports. I hated the jocks. They always used to gang up on me, insult me, threaten me and sometimes nick my money, hit me in the face with their bats during the games and claim it was an "accident", and generally really made me feel like shit. One day, it went too far when one of these bastards mocked one of my recently deceased relatives. That was it for me. I was sick of the jocks getting away with everything no matter how bad. The next day, Friday 5th June 1981 (I even remember the exact day), I turned up with hate in my blood, ready for a fight, found the guy after school smoking with his girlfriend and beat the living crap out of him for what he said. He didn't dare mock me or any of my family again, not now he'd been majorly tuned up by somebody who he used to spit upon. I got in so much trouble for that but it felt so good to give one of these fascists a right pounding. Justice. That sums it up. His girlfriend was hardly impressed by the brutal display but after I told her what he'd said, she dumped him and called him sick. Good. At least some people have decency. Jocks are a disgrace to humanity. They treat the world like it belongs to them and are completely ignorant of other people's feelings and rights. They ruined my life back when I was younger and I savour the day when I finally got rid of these pathetic arsewipes.

Re: Introduction
Geno, if you haven't already, read the last five posts of the topic "Non-ignorant athlete/sports fan - please read." There's a remarkable parallel in the childhood bullying experiences of yourself, Greencom, and Fat Man. I find it fascinating, but not too surprising. I need not make any further comments about this. The observations that I could make (two points, actually) should be readily apparent to anyone.
