If this is just a "minor" issue, and we're just making something out of nothing then why are you here defending sports? Who appointed you the official defender of organized sports?

How do I know most people aren't as infatuated with sports as you? From my own personal experience. How else would I know? As far as I know, there hasn't been a survey or study conducted on this topic so I don't have any figures to cite. Rest assured, if there were such a study, the results would show that the vast majority of us find sports about as interesting as TV commercials. Well, less than that actually.Detroitsportsfan08 wrote:Tell me exactly how you know most people don't like sports? Most people do TOLERATE sports though because they're polite and realize that it means a lot to some people.
I guess that's why they so fiercely insist that we all like sports too. Because if we don't, there goes there only claim to person-hood! Here, Detroit Sports Fan has no personality (I didn't have to tell you guys that, did I?).
It's honestly funny how you can feel this strongly about something so minor, and analyze these people as if you know them. It's quite comical how it bothers you this much that people watch and like sports.

It is a minor issue. The way some of you guys over-analyze the people that watch sports and what that makes them is quite comical. It's a form of entertainment, not a genocide.
Own personal experience? You mean the non sports fans you come in contact with? You truly have no idea what you're talking about. And vast majority? Then please explain this to me. The high TV ratings, as well as the still good attendance in all of the four major leagues despite the fact that the economy is in terrible shape. That's not even counting the 100 thousand seat college stadiums that are filled to capacity every weekend, which on top of that get huge ratings.Don't let facts get in the way though. Makes you mad that so many people love sports, doesn't it?Ray wrote:How do I know most people aren't as infatuated with sports as you? From my own personal experience. How else would I know? You find it funny that I can feel so strongly about something so minor? That is ironic. Because I feel the same way about you. You are positively nuts about something that you yourself declare to be "so minor". That is...weird. You obviously are not admitting how much sports mean to you. They are obviously NOT minor to you. They are central to your world view!
Verrrrrry interesting... please go on.
See above post about "minor".Ray wrote:Detroitsportsfan08 wrote:My proof is in the TV ratings, attendance, how much it gets talked about, and how much it's played.

I am confused. If it's SO minor an issue, why can't you stop talking about it? I think this is one of the most severe cases of personality-disorder I've ever seen. I suggest immediate counseling and lots of it!
whoooaaaa! that is HEAVY and insightful! I never would have thought of that. Maybe you're right... man.. that is twisted. And it would fit right in with his attitude. I think your diagnosis is correct. I will monitor his condition and look for confirming clues.Fitz301 wrote:If you love sports so much, why do you come to this site? Or maybe...
dare I say it...
maybe you're just a closet sports hater and don't want to admit it.

Sports continues to grow in popularity and youth participation continues to skyrocket.Ray wrote:whoooaaaa! that is HEAVY and insightful! I never would have thought of that. And here I was thinking that he was from ESPN and trying to sabotage the movement and stop the erosion of sports fans. ha ha ha ha ha ah ahh a -but he's one of us!
During WW2 the youth participation of the Hitler youth skyrocketed too, but not because the kids wanted to. What's your point?Detroitsportsfan08 wrote:Sports continues to grow in popularity and youth participation continues to skyrocket.Ray wrote:whoooaaaa! that is HEAVY and insightful! Also, way to conveniently ignore the last post I made in this thread. Knew you were wrong, eh?

I'm not a big sports fan and I'm definitely not a pro sports fan. I am a fan of letting other people do their thing in peace. What really struck me about this site was the determined sports fans relentlessly debating the regulars here.
Help me out, (It's been a looong time since high school) is this the modern version of bullies locking geeks in their locker, or do they somehow feel threatened by this gathering of obviously seditious radicals?
I don't like Oprah, baseball, or clowns, but I've never felt the need to debate their fans on their websites!
