- Never talk about basketball or even admit that you know what it is. Basketball is for lamers.

- Never sign up for the online sports newsletters. To acknowledge basketball is to invite mediocrity.

- Get as many people as you know to write emails and letters to TV, Radio Stations, Newspapers local and international demanding that sports, particularly basketball, be eliminated from the public airwaves.

- Find out the names of team members and write them letters encouraging them to drop out and get real jobs. Write their wives and spill the beans about the basketball player's affairs when "away". Write the coach and inform him about the player's observed drug use. Write the team owner on behalf of the player and tell him you QUIT!

- Never play basketball with your younger family members. Entertain them with some alternative entertainment. Encourage excellence.

- Never wear basketball colours when out and about.

- Boycott all sports gear, particularly basketball shoes and jerseys. Wearing them makes you look like a fool.

Hey thanks for the heads up on the not gloating too much thing, but I see it this way - sports nuts get WAY too much air time in the regular media as it is promoting their over-rated hype, and so surely here on sportssuck.org we have an opportunity, and even a responsibility, to expose the truth behind all their hype as much as possible. (While sticking to the facts ourselves, of course). I see it more as "restoring the balance" - LIKE THIS! -

Very few Australian players have played in the premier basketball league in the world, the NBA.

So you don't watch all the games yourself to accurately assess them for yourself then, do you. Looks like I was right then - you're just full of shit. "Common KNOWLEDGE" you say - you've got to be kidding. You must have a very low threshold for what constitutes KNOWLEDGE. At best, you're just regurgitating pointless boring sporting statistics like the trained parrots that you sports fans are.

The trouble is you see, just using raw numbers of participation like that leads to a distorted comparison between any two leagues/associations. At the very least, you would have to weight the figures to take into account the different population figures of each country - don't forget Australia has only got about 0.3% of the worlds population. And there would be many other factors that would have to be taken into consideration as well. Such as, historic cultural saturation of the activity in each country, relative amount of media hype supporting it, relative amount of government subsidies for it, etc., etc., and no doubt many other POINTLESS AND BORING FACTORS ABOUT SPORT, to get a realistic comparison.

Making a comparison while NOT adjusting for all these complex factors would be distorting reality, and that would be CHEATING, and that would be very UN-SPORTSMANLIKE of you, now wouldn't it dsf08.

It's like the Olympics results. Countries with large populations do well on the overall medal tally table, certainly. Not that I waste my time following it too closely or even care though, but from what I hear from our sports nuts here in Australia, "we" do extremely well WHEN YOU ADJUST FOR RELATIVE POPULATION BASE. Get it?

And you see dsf08, your USA's relatively large population is a double edged sword that works AGAINST you as well. It also means that you's are OVER-represented, if you just use raw numbers, in globally DESTRUCTIVE things like atmospheric pollution as well. For example, if you look at annual tonnage of CO2 emissions, then the USA is WAY ahead of Australia. (In raw numbers, kind of like the basketball, right?). But then if you make adjustments on a per capita basis, then the USA and Australia, are pretty much neck and neck. Do you get that? It's like basketball - we're pretty much all the same when you unpack it.

But I did a little bit of research on the NBA for myself, and I found out something very interesting. You might want to sit up and pay attention here dsf08, because you might learn something. According to the figures I got for the 2008-09 season, ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cu ... BA_players ), there are 433 players in the NBA, and 2 of them are Australian, and according to my trusty calculator, 2 divided by 433, multiplied by 100, means that Australians are 0.46% of the players in the NBA. If you recall that Australians are only about 0.3% of the population of the world, then it could be said that Australians are actually OVER represented in the NBA. Well, well, well, how about that. Of course these would all be just more pointless boring sporting statistics, EXCEPT THAT THEY EXPOSE YOU AS AN UNRELIABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION - or as we say here in Australia - YOU'RE FULL OF SHIT.

And let's stop beating around the bush. You were having a dig at Australians, weren't you, (and then later, Europeans), and that makes you a RACIST, as well as being full of shit. Yes that's right, you are a racist. You are claiming an attachment to something (apparently deludedly) that you see as "superior", and demeaning other cultures on the basis of that. DETROITSPORTSFAN08, YOU ARE A RACIST, as well as being full of shit. Well, you're on your own with that attitude. You have revealed to all the world, here on an international stage, that you use sport as an excuse for anti-social behaviour such as recklessly spreading mis-information, and racial abuse. You low dog.

If you must continue being a racist, then here's a link for you. You should go and hang out there, with them, instead of hanging out here. Go on then, go and be with your own kind. You're completely and utterly wasting you're time here.

http://www.kukluxklan.bz/

Hey, here's a joke that I just made up -

Q. Why did the sports fan cross the road?
A. Because everybody else did.
This is the most ridiculous, illogical, and incorrect argument I have ever read on this site. There was nothing racial about Detroitsportsfan08's (now Polite24) statements for 2 reasons:

1. Australians are not a race. They are a nationality. I don't know what race Detroitsportsfan08 is, but even if he is not white his comments were not in any way racist towards the (mostly white) Australians.

2. Detroitsportsfan08's comments were not an American taking shots at Europeans or Australians either. He was simply stating a fact which you may not have been aware of: that the NBA, America's professional basketball league, is the most talented basketball league in the world. It's a pretty much indisputable fact that America has the world's best basketball league, just like Europe has the best soccer leagues.

Quit being a smart ass who tries to bring out these accusations of racism to cover up your own ignorance.

WOW! That is good news!

YEAH! It says that police officers can now set their attacks dogs on sports fans, but NOT on protesters.

That makes sense.

Demonstrators protesting for a political cause that is either for or against something, they are expressing their right to free speech under the constitution and are often demonstrating for a worthy cause. They are usually protesting against some injustice and demonstrating for freedom.

But sports fans on the other hand . . . well . . . when they are out protesting or demonstrating, they are only demonstrating their anger because their favorite team lost a game. It's not like they are protesting against a political or moral injustice. No, they are protesting simply because a team lost a game, and they demonstrate their feelings through destructive means, such as setting fires, breaking shop windows, overturning cars and setting fire to them, and then going out and raping women, so they deserve to be ripped apart by police attack dogs.

Political protesters, when they demonstrate, they only march in the streets, carrying protest signs or banners, shouting their political slogans and singing protest songs. No big deal! They are merely expressing themselves through free speech, and most of the time they don't cause any serious disruptions.

Of curse, the police are there just in case somebody tries to cause any trouble.

HELL!!! Even the KKK and the Neo Nazis, when they demonstrate in the streets, they, even they, are much better behaved than sports fans.

Political protesters are demonstrating for social justice, a worthy cause.

Protesting sports fans demonstrate violently over something trivial that doesn't mean jack shit!

So, their favorite team lost the big game of the season!

Like, who give a fuck!!!

Don't forget, according to CPS Prosecution Policy - "A racial group means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin."

And, according to the United Nations International Convention, the legal definition of racism is -

"The term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life."

So you see, grasshopper, the legal definition of racism is very broad indeed, and what you and your bum buddy Detroit/Polite have said, falls WELL within the legal definition of racism. SO WHO'S IGNORANT NOW? (That would be you, numbnuts).

SO I'VE ACTUALLY GOT A LEGAL CASE OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION AGAINST YOU TWO KNUCKLEHEADS, YOU SEE! Ha! (That reminds me, I must send my lawyer a Christmas card this year...). Perhaps I shouldn't see your posts on this topic so much as posts, but perhaps I should see them more as - EVIDENCE!.... (Hmmm....KA-CHING!)....

Yeah! Right on Fat Man!

The Government, who usually want to hold onto power as much as possible, recognises that even the ANTI-Government protesters are generally reasonably well behaved people, but that SPORTS FANS are PREDICTABLY so badly behaved as to be lumped in with the COMMON CRIMINALS!

Ahhh, sweet justice!

Leagues fold all the time. The thing that remains constant is the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. And it's Australian basketball. If the premier basketball league in Spain or Germany folded then there may be problems on the horizon,

HEY THERE! Polite24 and SportsGuy92 !!!

Why have you not responded to anything I have said under this topic?

I LOVE IT!

I love knowing that I may march in the streets, carrying a protest sign or banner, shout political slogans, and sing political protest songs, and I don't have to worry about being arrested.

But you, Mr Sports Fan, if you are feeling all pissed off because your favorite football team lost the big game of the season, you many NOT go out into the streets and protest and demonstrate your frustrations.

Because, if you do . . . . . you will get ripped apart by police attack dogs!

So, if you're all upset over the loss of a game, you'll just have to shut the fuck up about it, and go home, and cry in your beer!

But if you get drunk, you better not take it out on your wife and kids, because again . . . If you do beat the crap out of your wife and kids in frustration, you will get busted.

BUUUUUAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!

I get to express my opinion.

But sports fans have to shut the fuck up, go home, and cry in their beer!

Yeah! I LOVE IT!

The payback's a bitch! Isn't it?

You must have forgotten what forum you're on. Nobody here cares what league folds or stays or what one is good or bad, it's all useless BULLSHIT! You really can't understand that some people don't give a rat's ass about it can you? I am amazed at the passion you have for this pointless mindless activity. Polite 24,
I have a list of things for you to think about:

What "Nerds" and "Geeks" have given to the world:

1. Antibiotics
2. Insulin
3. MRI's
4. CAT scan imaging
5. Organ transplants
6. Smallpox, polio, cholera, etc.. all but wiped out
7. Television
8. Radio
9. Automobiles
10. Planes
11. Computers
12. Communications satellites
13. GPS
14. Space travel
and on and on and on.... I could list hundreds of more things that you use and need everyday and take for granted, things that save lives and makes life more enjoyable and safer.
Now, make a list of great "contributions" that pro sports has given to the world, and let's see what you would be willing to do without.

@Fat Man
Way to take things out of context. If this whole thing is even true, they are using the dogs for crowd control. They're not going to just let the dogs have at all the sports fans.

@greencom
If it makes millions upon millions of people happy and millions of people enjoy it then it's not pointless or mindless in anyway.

BTW, you show your true ignorance by calling sports mindless. On the surface, they are very simple. But there are many intricacies that you guys can't even begin to understand.

@dickfilthy
Learn the difference between race and nationality. A race would be hispanic, african american, or white. A nationality would be German, French, or Australian.

Your own level headed countrymen would fully admit that Americans are far better at basketball than Australians.

Canadians are better at hockey than Americans
Americans are better at american football than everyone
The European soccer leagues are better than the MLS, which is the American soccer league.

None of these are examples of racism, or even discrimination. They are pretty much undisputed facts throughout the sports world. They all have been proven on the court/field/ice.

@greencom
When have I ever belittled scientists or doctors? Obviously in the big picture they are much more important than sports. However, here are the things sports has given.

1.Made people happy
2.Kept kids out of trouble
3.Sent kids to college who otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford it
4.Gave cities who were hurting something to take their mind off of(New York-2001, New Orleans-2005, Detroit-1968, etc.)
5.Countless amount of jobs

I'm not saying in anyway that list is supposed to rival the one you made, just showing that sports do mean something to a lot of people. IMO, you guys really ignore the happiness factor when it comes to sports. Just about any sports fan will tell you there are more important things than sports, but that doesn't change the fact they do serve a purpose.

Thats it, I've have enough of this bullshit. All I was trying to say is that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world, not that Americans are superior to other people. Nothing more. Some of the NBA's best players are foreigners, such as Yao Ming (China), Dirk Nowitzki (Germany), and Tony Parker (France), just to name a few. No Americans are going to accuse you of being racist if you say that Europe's soccer leagues are better than the MLS. Do you really think you have the grounds for a lawsuit? Make my day shithead. But don't expect your arguments to hold up in a courtroom.

When I joined this website, I knew that I was going to have insults thrown at me. But never in a million years could I have imagined that I would be accused of racism, which is an evil that goes against my beliefs as well as the way my parents raised me, just for saying something that is common knowledge and is not derogatory to any race, country, or whatever. What kind of talk is going to come out of your ass next? That Ohio State University fans are racist because they prefer their team over the University of Michigan? Or Boston Red Sox fans are racist for liking their favorite team better than the New York Yankees? Give me a break.

Oh, and Fat Man and greencom, quit trying to distract me and Polite24 from defending ourselves against dickfilthy's garbage. Serious terms like "racist" and "nazi" get thrown around so often and so casually these days that some of their meaning has been lost. But dickfilthy has made serious accusations of me being a racist, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Just ask any of my Black, Asian, or Latino friends. You guys judge all sports fans based on people like samdaman, mike the pain train, etc., assume that the majority are like that, and end up with superior attitudes. Now you just can't accept the fact that their are people on your side who are like that too.
