How about watch an informerical on TV, or watch fish swim in an aquarium for half an hour? Perhaps these suggestions will cause someone to come up with a better idea. Or take a phone call from a solicitor? Or watch the grass grow? (Well, that last one is a cliche.)

My favorite is, I'd rather watch paint drying!
Instead of listening to a sports bore, I can hold a more intelligent conversation with a house plant!

I'd rather listen to a phone solicitor THAN A DAMN SPORTS BORE!!!

Not including calls on our cell phones, of course, most of our other phone calls are from phone solicitors.

Oh, yeah. I'm sure glad we've got caller ID! I know when
not to answer the stupid phone.
Wait a minute. Our daughter in college
did receive a call from a solicitor on her cell phone recently. It's just a matter of time, folks.
