You guys judge all sports fans based on people like samdaman, mike the pain train, etc., assume that the majority are like that, and end up with superior attitudes. Now you just can't accept the fact that their are people on your side who are like that too.
First off, I do not consider you a racist or a Nazi, however I know many sports fans that share the mindset of Samdaman and Pain_Train. They have a Nazi-like attitude toward others who are not of their ilk and they do see themselves as superior. I run into them much more frequently than more moderate fans such as yourself. An eye opening event happened at my workplace several years ago. The company I work for decided that the electronic techs must start taking recertification tests to make sure that we all meet minimum standards of knowledge and troubleshooting skills. Out of about 100 techs only about 20 passed the test with the required 95% grade. I was one of them and I know the others that passed. 19 out of the 20 that passed were non-sports guys, almost all of the remaining failing techs were sports fans. The guys that passed were actually made fun of by the "superior" wannabe jocks that failed. The reason these airheads made tech in the first place was that requirements were much looser years ago, we found out that these losers hadn't cracked a book in 25+years which is something that I find typical of a sports fan. A real-life event, this is not made up. The jocks went through re-training to get certified, you never heard so much bitching and moaning! I would have fired them all.

Polite24, the next time you want to reply to multiple people, do so in one post. Address each member with something like @MemberName instead of quoting entire posts. There's no need for quadruple posting.

All the posts you made are on the previous page in one reply now.

Upon being informed about the latest depressing argument, Mrs. Earl defends SportsGuy92 and Polite24 against charges of being racists.

Don't be dismayed, Greencom. I'm still on your side. In fact, I came up with the designation "Sports Fascist" myself either in a post or in a PM addressed to Skul. I don't think that Polite24 or SportsGuy92 deserve to be categorized as sports fascists. I don't agree with every single comment that they have made; but they are far more reasonable and tolerant than jerks like "Captain America" (whom I believe really was a college football player) and "Mike_the_Pain_Train" (whose professed identity is seriously in doubt), both of whom are sports fascists. Don't worry. I'm not going soft!

No. It's over. You lost. Oh, and by the way Detroit/Polite, have you started at the UNIVERSITY OF SESAME STREET yet?! Ha ha! How's that going? How's your grasp of numbers and simple mathematics going? Learnt how to count yet? Who's your teacher - THE COUNT?!!! AH! AH! AH! You know, if you take off your shoes and socks you might even be able to count up to TWENTY! Dude, with your apparent level of mathematical ability, you must have real trouble even figuring out a sports scoreboard.

But your mate SportsGuy92 has picked up on something else that went right over the top of your head, Polite - the racism thing. That's where we're up to now, so do try to keep up. But I see you've followed SportsGuy's lead quite nicely, and blundered in, in your uniquely simple way, and provided us all with an EVEN CLEARER example of what I'm talking about -
Polite24 wrote:Americans are far better at basketball than Australians.
SEE - YOU ARE CLAIMING RACIAL SUPERIORORITY. Thanks for that fantastic example Polite.

Now just to re-cap for the sports fans who seem to have missed it the first time around, I'll just zero in on the finer points of the legal definition of racism for you. Plus this time I will underline, and bold, the relevant points for you's. They're ALL relevant really, but I can see I'll have to dumb it down a little bit more for you yet, for you sports fans who seem to have missed it the first time around....
dickfilthy wrote: "A racial group means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin."

"The term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life."
So did you sports fans get it this time around? - THE DEFINITION OF RACISM IS EXTREMELY BROAD. It's a lawyers dream come true. So what you pair of knuckleheads have said would easily qualify.
SportsGuy92 wrote:Do you really think you have the grounds for a lawsuit?
Well it looks like YES, I would say I DO actually, just by looking at the legal definition of racism above. Oh, and thanks for reminding me - Public Announcement - "If there's any law firms out there that would like to pursue this matter, then please let me know. I would like one of those deals where I don't have to outlay any cash up front, but we just come to some sort of arrangement over the resulting compensation payout. That would be quite suitable for me, thankyou."

Just remember - THE DEFINITION OF RACISM IS EXTREMELY BROAD. Essentially, all I have to do is say I feel offended/abused, and that's it. That's pretty much the test for it. Case closed! Payday! Ka-Ching! Hey, how good would that be - especially in these hard economic times - making a bucket load of money OUT OF SPORTS FANS! Ahhhhhh, what sweet, sweet justice that would be. Hey, I think I might have found my new career!
SportsGuy92 wrote:defending ourselves against dickfilthy's garbage.
Hey now just wait a minute. Defending yourselves? DEFENDING YOURSELVES? You've got to be kidding. Let's get something straight here - I am the one DEFENDING MYSELF here, against YOUR attack. Remember? This was none of your business until you stuck your big nose into it. So now you're in it by your own choosing. So don't come on here crying that I'm attacking you. I thought sport was supposed to teach you all about life - but you don't even seem to understand the fundamental difference between attack and defence.

And while we're at it, let's just back up a whole lot more here as well. Let's go right back to where this all began. Let's not lose sight of how this all started. I started this thread as a bit of light hearted fun, to have some interactions with some like minded fellow sports haters, on a website who's general view I agree with. So there I was, minding my own business, when this slobbering dumb oaf of a thing, (Detroit/Polite), comes along out of nowhere, and the first thing he did was insult me.

I'd had a nice pleasant introduction on here up until then, but old Detroit was just straight into the insults. So you see my first encounter with a sports bore on here was that of receiving an insult, to me, and to my country, and so don't blame me for simply being hostile back towards sports bores on here IN RETURN FOR WHAT THEY STARTED. (You see, they started it first don't forget, Mrs. Earl). Detroit/Polite chose to introduce himself to me on here by way of offending me, and yes, I was offended. Don't forget, the definition of racism is very broad - see above - and the test is only - if I felt racially offended. And I did. So it's racism.

AND HERE'S THE THING - YOU SPORTS BORES SEEM TO THINK THAT BECAUSE AN INSULT HAS A SPORTING THEME TO IT, THAT SOMEHOW IT DOESN'T COUNT AS AN INSULT. Bullshit. An insult, is an insult, is an insult.

What if I came on here and started saying that I wipe my ass with an American flag every time I have a crap? Huh? Would it make it alright if my rationale for it was "Oh, get over it, it's just a piece of material"? Oh no, I don't think so. I'd never hear the end of it, would I. I'm pretty sure I'd be run out of town for that. But you sports bores seem to think that it was O.K. to insult me and MY country, just because it involved sport. So I'm just supposed to sit here and take it am I? WELL, SCREW THAT. IF YOUR FIRST CONTACT TO ME IS AN INSULT, THEN YOU CAN GO TO HELL. YOU SPORTS BORES NEED TO LEARN THE BASIC MANNERS OF HUMAN INTERACTION, YOU STUPID PRIMITIVE NEANDERTHALS.

I didn't know the definition of racism was that broad, so you got me there. However, that doesn't change the fact that you are a fucking idiot. I normally don't attack people, but you're being pretty confrontational.

You're talking semantics here dude. I'm white, and I will readily admit that blacks are better than whites at basketball and football. Things like that aren't considered racism, it's just the way it is. Americans are better than Australians at basketball, it's the way it is. No level headed Aussie would get mad over that.

A judge would laugh in your face for taking something like this to court. Because I said Americans are better at a sport? I can't believe you're seriously making this argument.

And you're joke about counting is pretty funny too.

You seriously tried to use in an argument that Australians were over represented in the NBA because .46 percent of NBA players are Australian, but the percentage of Australians in the world is less than that.

If there was ever a more irrelevant fact...

No one's mind on either side will ever be changed in this forum. The order of the day seems to be to prove the other side wrong. My side, right or wrong. Nothing else matters. This seems to be what Internet posting is all about. Can't say I'm guiltless. But I will admit that an exchange such as the recent one with mike_the_pain_train was quite entertaining. Once I got over my intitial anger when I read his first post, I certainly had a good time like everyone else. (My attempt to communicate with him was sincere, though.) The witty responses were rather humorous. I even read them out loud to my legally blind wife (whom I've given the would-be username "Mrs. Earl" ), who thought they were a hoot. I hope he comes back. And this may surprise Polite24 and SportsGuy92 (or maybe not!): Even Fat Man wants him to return. Especially Fat Man. Sometimes I feel I'm at a loss of words, caught between two extremes. I don't look down on or feel superior to anyone in this forum on either side. Don't know what else to say. :|

Greencom
greencom, this is correct, but you're comparing apples to oranges here. Scientific research has made many contributions that have made the world a better place, and sports haven't. No reasonable sports fan will claim they have. Sports aren't meant to change the world, they're just a form of entertainment and recreation, but some people here think they're evil or dangerous somehow.

Oh! Sports has made one very big contribution!

Sports has contributed to the overall declining quality of education across the USA!

Science and math teachers have been fired so that could they hire more athletic coaches.

Many schools have decided that they can't afford new equipment for chemistry or physics or biology labs and are using outdated text books, but they can still buy new football uniforms and sports equipment.

And I forgot, jocks have contributed to increased sexual assaults and rape on campus.

So, that's two contributions made by sports.

Later on I'll think of more contributions made by sports.
ImageI'm fat and sassy! I love to sing & dance & stomp my feet & really rock your world!

All I want to hear from an ex-jock is "Will that be paper or plastic?" After that he can shut the fuck up!
Heah comes da judge! Heah comes da judge! Order in da court 'cuz heah comes da judge!

One of the points that Greencom was making is that in spite of this country's anti-intellectualism, society needs "nerds" and "geeks" and that they therefore don't deserve to be bullied in the very institutions where they should be receiving support but are often ignored.

SportsGuy92, as someone who grew up under Jim Crow and was all but an eyewitness to a particularly cruel form of discrimination against black Americans, I completely agree with your outrage over being falsely accused of being a racist. I also find the utterly false accusation of having homosexual tendencies to be particularly vicious. You yourself have said that some of your teammates refer to nonathletic guys at your high school as "fags." They are called "fags" simply because they are physically weaker than the football players, regardless of their character. Never mind that nonathletic guys might have strengths of their own. Somehow that doesn't count. (Incidentally, why should nonathletic teenage boys cheer at their high school's football games for players who call them "fags"?) You accuse us of having superior attitudes. How about those teammates of yours? They don't have superior attitudes? Of course, I guess this particular unjustified attitude of superiority is not so offensive in your view since it doesn't affect you personally. Ever since I was less than ten years of age, for decades I've heard people in the sports crowd say in one way or another that athletes are superior to nonathletes; but it's those of us who support this website who are the worst offenders when it comes to having an attitude of superiority? We be bad! We be bad!

I hope someday you learn that just because someone is critical of wrong attitudes or actions of others that that doesn't necessarily mean that he feels superior to them. I've lived with feelings of inferiority for most of my life. I've never thought that I was superior to football players. Not even those who were bullies or worse.

Oh, and by the way (referring to your latest post), some football fans refer to scientists as "pencil-necked geeks." One of them, a sociology professor named Patricia Cayo Sexton, wrote a diatribe (a full-length book, if you can believe that) against nonathletic scientists and other nonathletic men. You say that we think sports are dangerous, which is a rather broad-brushed charge. She says that "feminized" (nonathletic) males are dangerous.
