Just look at the many horrible crimes that have been justified in the name of God, or gods, and many religions.

The Roman Catholic Holy Office with The Inquisition and The Crusades, The Salem Witch Trials by the Puritans, Islamic Jihad, etc. etc. The list could go on and on forever!

It's a well known fact, that the majority of people in our prisons are religious people. There are very few atheists in prisons. For some reason, the crime rate among atheists is much much lower than among religious people.

And that's a fact!

That's why I'm not down on atheism. I do understand atheism.

This is an open forum where we can express our opinions. Not everybody is going agree with the opinions expressed, and I enjoy an open forum where we can speak what's on on our minds.

So, in a way, both you and Earl have not gone off topic.

And like some ancient religions or cults, sports also demands human sacrifices.

That's why many students in high school have been beaten and bullied around. Some have even been thrown down flights of stairs. Some have been thrown through plate glass windows. Some have been knocked off their bicycles by drunken jocks driving on the streets, and some kids have had empty beer bottles thrown at them from speeding cars driven by drunken jocks.

Kids have been killed by some of these moronic monkey-boys!

One of the things that is Bullsh!t is that there is a football match on tonight and because of that they moved Britain's got talent to tomorrow.

But football is sacred. None of its participants should ever be criticized for their conduct off the playing field (specifically how they treat other people). It's the new secular religion of America. Don't ever say it's only a game, and don't ever contradict the incessant claim that football builds character.

But the statistics show that here in the USA in the general population, there is a much lower crime rate among atheists than among religious people, and the majority of people serving time in prisons come from religious backgrounds.

We gamers are huge in numbers, we out number even the jocks... we have the technology that is foreign to them, we can kill them all right now... we just don't want to. Christians tend to think killing "non-believers" is the right thing! No offense.

I discovered this website late in December of last year. I have read all of the letters and most of the posts in the forum. I have been amazed at the reaction of most of the critics of this website, as if we were the most despicable people in the world. Iâ??ve never seen so much hatred and venom since the days of racial turmoil from 1954 through the early 1970s. Iâ??ve been amazed at all the sports fans and self-proclaimed jocks who have launched vicious personal attacks against people they hadnâ??t even met. Iâ??ve seen more civility between liberal and conservative talking heads on the Fox News cable channel.

I am not saying that all this hatred has been one-sided, although most of it does seem to come from the sports fan side. I do not agree with all of the statements that have been made by â??sports haters.â? I do not refer to hockey players as â??toothless morons.â? I recognize that there are some people who hate all athletes, which is not right. I also realize that some athletes are sensitive men whose feelings can be hurt just like the rest of us. I would not recommend this website to any of the three personal trainers whom Iâ??ve worked with at my health club.

Polite24, I have grown sick and tired of your smugness and self-righteousness. You act like a vastly superior person who has condescended to the level of the unwashed and lowly to set us right. You have insulted us and impugned our motives. You have called us whiners and have even said that some of us are not right mentally. At the same time, you have not objected to any of the hatred spewed by SpeedofLeight (with his homosexual pornographic link), Captain America (what an egocentric username; not surprising, though), mikejones, Harold, or samdaman.

You have said that athletes work hard at what they do, and you are right. As someone who has always respected athletic achievement, I know that self-discipline and dedication are involved. But you donâ??t point out that the same can be said for others. Do you think that nerds donâ??t work hard? Do you think that achieving proficiency in a science such as physics or chemistry is easy to do? (Before you accuse me of furthering the â??dumb jockâ? stereotype, I recognize that there are individual athletes who later become doctors and scientists.) My older daughter graduated from high school summa cum laude. At the university she attended, she made the Deanâ??s List or the Presidentâ??s List just about every semester and was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa before she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelorâ??s degree in mathematics. (Before you sneer at her, Iâ??ll tell you that sheâ??s been a big fan at the universityâ??s football games.) I canâ??t tell you how hard she worked to excel academically. She lost a lot of sleep staying up late studying and doing homework. I really donâ??t know how she did it without ruining her health. The nerds whom samdaman, Harold, and so many others incessantly denigrate work just as hard as my daughter did.

You have claimed that jocks do not pick on nerds, despite the posts proving otherwise that can be read at this website. You can do a Google search and find websites where self-proclaimed jocks have left messages in which they express their hatred of nerds. You say that no boy today is bullied because he is not good at sports. Come on, give me a break! Nothing has changed in that regard since I was a kid. I can't help believing that you are intellectually dishonest, although there have been a few times when you have admitted that one of us was right about something. And as far as the issue of bullying is concerned, you have indicated that you have a tendency to blame the victim. Unfortunately, you have plenty of company who agree with you, including most principals and coaches.

You have played amateur psychologist and have denounced us as being terribly flawed human beings, when you have not met a single one of us. Never mind that we are a diverse group of people. Some of us probably have nothing in common but our dislike of sports excesses. Well, buddy, itâ??s time that you lie down on the psychologistâ??s couch for a change.

I have often wondered why some sports fans such as you obsess over this website. (Donâ??t get me wrong. I admit that controversy keeps this forum alive. Believe it or not, none of us -- well, with the possible exception of someone whose name I will not mention -- donâ??t want you to leave.) There are any number of groups I strongly disagree with or even detest whose websites I wouldnâ??t even bother visiting. I think I finally understand the psychology that is at work here. A good friend of mine who played football in junior high and high school recently told me that he never saw a more insecure group of guys than most of his teammates. He said they constantly felt the need to supposedly prove their masculinity over and over again. Many of them lashed out at nonathletic classmates, especially those who were physically weak or fat. He refers to their mentality and actions as â??the Lord of the flies.â?

I am convinced that intolerance is driven by a feeling of insecurity. I believe that you and all the other critics cannot stand this website because you are insecure. You almost seem to think that we pose a threat to you. Iâ??m not meaning to put you down; but the masculine self-esteem of way too many jocks seems to be so highly tied in with sports that even the slightest criticism of some injustice connected with the jock culture is viewed as an attack on their manhood. Instead of regarding football as being just a game, more than a few high-school football players (such as critics of this website) and many of their coaches seem to view playing football as the only real test of manhood. So, naturally, a boy who has no interest in football is viewed as being unmanly and therefore deserving of nothing but contempt. Boys who have no interest in sports are often accused of having homosexual tendencies, despite the fact that throughout history homosexual men have been involved in rough contact sports, just as they have been involved in just about every other human activity. (This is not a defense of homosexuality. Itâ??s just a plain statement of fact.) Hence, the rage of samdaman, Harold, and so many others against nerds.

A secure athletic guy wouldnâ??t even bother coming to this website. He would just brush it off. I have a personal reason to dislike the John Birch Society because they tried to blacklist my sister during the early 1960s simply because she was opposed to discrimination against blacks and Jews; but do I feel the need to go to their website and incessantly lecture them or harass them with hate-filled spam? No, of course not. Because I feel secure enough in my conviction that they are boneheaded.
