What to do

Post by glamgal76 »

Hi everyone, I'm new here, kinda found this by accident and see alot of folks who share my opinions. So, here's what prompted me to join you. I am a bartender. I work in a bar...it's not a sports bar, but we have sports on the TV most of the time. Usually I just tune out, and have a few compadres there who share my disinterest, so we talk about literature, or art, or movies, or other non-sports related things, and it's fine. Here's the problem. I live in CHICAGO........Sunday is the damn superbowl and I am dreading it so much I could just cry. During the playoffs, when Chicago beat the Saints, it was a madhouse, filled with people we've NEVER seen in there before, trying to coerce us into buying "free shots for the house" just because the Bears won. One of them actually tried to TOUCH me in one of those horrible high-five motions...and I just know this damn superbowl thing will be worse. What I'd like to do is lock myself in the house for the next week or so (because, unfortunately, the game doesn't end when the time runs out, I have to listen to the idiots babble about it all week) but...what I have to do is go to work and put a fake smile on my face...it's painful, I tell ya!

pardon the rambling and lack of paragraphs, I just felt the need to get it out of my system! lol

ha ha ha hah sorry --I don't mean to laugh but that must be a living hell. Sports AND drunks! drunk sports fans! I wonder if the Bears won. I didn't watch the superbore but I learned today that it was the Bears who are from Chicago and the Colts who are from Indiana (I think). Well, good luck. For your sake, I hope the Bears lose!

Congrats on the Bears losing (the superbowl was the top story, of course!). Of course, now you get to watch everybody walk around with their chins dragging on the ground, acting like they lost a loved one or something. That is what happened when the Saints lost a couple of weeks ago (I live about an hour north of New Orleans). People were actually crying because of it. I, on the other hand, was quite happy and relieved at being spared the horror of having the Saints in the superbowl. Once they made it to the playoffs, and after they won the first playoff game, the hype reached ridiculous levels. I didn't even want to think what it would have been like had they actually made it to the superbowl, or worse yet, actually won it!

Incidentally, the day after the Saints lost, the ENTIRE front page of the paper was devoted to the Saints. I'm not exaggerating. There was nothing else. Meanwhile, real news got pushed further back.

I know it's no joy to see but it's only fair that they mope around because "their" team lost --because if their team had won, they would have been rioting in the streets and dancing around as if they were solely responsible! But I understand what you're saying --I don't understand it either. How they can get so wrapped up in something that they have absolutely nothing to do with.

We have the same warped news reporting here too. Last month the whole front page was dedicated to football! It really irks me. I have resisted up 'til now but I guess I'm gonna have to get ugly. I'm gonna start writing letters to the editor. I didn't want to! But they forced me! Now they're gonna get a taste of anti-sports wrath!! I pity THEM!! :)

We need to be heard!

The entire front page dedicated to a meaningless sport? Excuse me, isn't that kind of trash at the back of the paper (over here, anyway)? Oh no, this is national news! Everyone must know some team lost/won, even though it affects NOTHING AT ALL except a bunch of greedy millionaires' bloated wallets.

Write that letter, Ray! Post it and any replies you get, too. I'm interested to see what they reply with, if they do. :)

Yeah write that letter, I'm behind you 100%
Let them know that if they got a beef about it, post it here and tell them what they can do with their newspaper. I don't know how anyone else feels but I'm just itching the tell a few sports fans off!
Too bad the site doesn't have a live chat session  ~hint, hint~

If we do get one, we'll need to have moderators on it so that if any sports fans arrive and start their senseless flaming, they can be kicked or banned. If the fans are reasonable (well, as reasonable as sports fans can get), they should be allowed to stay. After all, we need to have a laugh. :P

Yep. You'd have to mind the store 24 hours a day. What about starting one in mIRC? That's free. BTW, I wrote --just an e-mail --but no response so far. They're probably used to cranks like me! :)

We should also find some way to spread the word about this website so we can truly eradicate sports from the face of the earth.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sam, you must be afraid of us. Why else would you constantly come here, trying to convince us that sports are 'good'? I... oh, what's the point? Trying to explain something to you is like trying to squeeze orange juice out of an apple.

That would be an interesting addition but do you think the average sports fan would be able to keep up? All they can ever think of to say is, You're a FAG!

Wrong, Ray, it's "your a FAG"

They have no conception of the difference between your and you're.
