So, uhhh...

Why are you guys so angry at sports fans? It's a form of entertainment. Do you also hate actors, musicians, writers, etc? What about art collectors, are they not the same as baseball card collectors?

Also, jocks are not nearly what you describe. I'm friends with the quarterback of my highschool's football team and I'm fat and have never played a sport in my life. ('cept tee ball).

Tl;DR - It seems like you guys are over reacting, just a smidge.

Four questions: Where or how did you hear about this website, are you a member of the 4chan sports board, why are you here, and why do you care what we think? I would deeply appreciate your honest answers. That way, we could actually have a dialogue instead of a tedious tit for tat.

By the way, before you condemn us off hand, take the time to read the members' posts. You cannot deny the reality of their own personal experiences. We do have a point of view.

Now, you're probably gonna ban me for this, but Encyclopedia Dramatica. And I'll admit, I had quite a laugh. But I'm serious, how can you hate people for enjoying a form of entertainment? I've been reading here for a few weeks. All I see is Fat Man getting way over excited over how football is a "whore" and a "Jezebel" and to "Leave it now before it kills you" ... Just because you had some bad experiences with some people doesn't mean it's sports' fault. Assholes are assholes. Most of the assholes I know don't play sports.

No, I'm not going to ban you. Actually, we have been reluctant to ban even abusive critics. We do make an exception for trolls, as anyone would, because they're not serious. I do appreciate your honesty. No, we do not hate anyone for enjoying a particular form of entertainment. At least I don't. We are individuals. We don't all have the same point of view. You need to take the time to get to know us individually. We've even had a major split. (See the topic "Here for a civil debate.")

You still haven't answered all of my questions. Are you a member of the 4chan sports board, why are you here, and why do you care what we think?

You don't 'join' a board. It's just based on personal preference. I guess I'd fit more with /v/ or /b/ (Video Games and Random respectively) than /sp/ (Sports). Also, you do know that /b/ and /i/ (On 7chan) ran the invasion of your board, right? The sports board couldn't care less, they just talk about sports, or something like that. I'm here because I'm amazed at how bigoted the people on here seem to be towards sports. (You may not be, but come on, look at Fat Man.) And I care because I enjoy the rants.

I might also be a bit of a 420channer for /weed/.

You say that you learned about this website at Encyclopedia Dramatica, which raises the following question: How do you feel about posting someone's name, e-mail address, mailing address, and telephone number on a webpage so the targeted person (in this case, Fat Man) can receive harassing phone calls and pranksters can impersonate him so subscriptions to unwanted magazines can be billed to him? From an ethical (not to mention moral) point of view -- nah, just from the standpoint of common decency, do you have any problem with this? I have my own disagreements with Fat Man's exaggerations and overheated rhetoric, but that is besides the point and in no way justifies the harassment.

Okay, at face value, it's pretty funny. That doesn't mean it's right, but you have to understand. 4chan is referred to as "The Internet's Asshole". They do this stuff because it's funny to them. Look at Operation Titstorm and Operation Clambake. (Fight for freedom of porn in Australia, and War on the Church of Scientology for great justice). It's all just for the lulz. Everyone knows it's wrong, definitely. But it's fun to have a little war on someone you don't like every now and then. Besides, it's the internet. There are plenty of measures that Fat Man could have taken to avoid his personal info not being put on there. We learn this stuff in Middle School. Don't put your real name and address out there in public. I may feel sorry for him, but at the same time it is a bit his fault. When you post about a subject people have strong feelings for, and leave your info in easy reach, well, shit's gonna happen.

As well, Fat Man does blame a lot of stuff that happens on 4chan. They can't get his credit card, yet he posts that money was stolen from his bank account. He probably clicked a bad web site.

The 4chan trolls did come from the sports board. I know this is for a fact because I visited the sports board frequently for over a month and read many of their posts in which they openly expressed their reactions to comments in our website. I do not deny that many of Fat Man's comments are extreme, and I don't agree with them and have sometimes publicly disagreed with him. But you would do well to take the time to find out exactly what happened to him as he was growing up. As far as bigotry is concerned, there is intolerance on both sides. For example, a formerly active member of our forum who is a high-school football player and is actually a decent kid (username, SportsGuy92) once admitted that most of his teammates viewed the nonathletic guys in their classes as "fags." That doesn't sound very tolerant to me. I'll give SportsGuy92 credit, though, for saying this about his teammates. I hate to say this, but I have some work to do now. I truly apologize. Please come back so we can continue this.

Will do. But the Sports Board only came in the first wave. The main attack came from /b/ after /sp/ realized it was stupid.

Good evening Nick.

OK, I have said this before a few times, but I'm going to say it again.

There was once upon a time, many long years ago when I did not hate sports.

I was merely NOT INTERESTED in sports, but I didn't actually hate sports.

But after having been suspended from school once for failing to climb a rope in a gymnasium, and being humiliated in front of the other students, and having been punched in the stomach with a basketball, well, that is when I began to hate sports.

I was unable to climb the rope because of a crippled left knee, the result of a car accident when I was 4 years old. So, I was unable to run like the other kids and I walked with a limp.

Never mind that I was doing well in all my academic subjects, I got suspended because I failed to climb a rope.

So, it was sports itself that taught me to hate sports.

Anyway . . . . .

Welcome to our forum.

Looking forward to having more discussions with you.

...But here's what I'm trying to say. I'm not interested in sports (Other than MLG). My parents are trying to get me to play sports, I say no. I hate my gym teacher, he's an asshole. Buuuut... Sports or whatever didn't make people assholes. Assholes will be assholes no matter what. What if your art teacher didn't like your art and all the art club kids were popular and got everyone to make fun of you. Would you be part of artsucks.org and be trashing art?

Well, when I was in art class sometimes my work was criticized, but I was never beaten over the head or physically assaulted just because somebody thought that some drawing or painting I did sucked. It was merely verbal teasing.

But sports on the other hand seems to inspire a lot more physical violence.

Here at our forum, we are a diverse group of people.

Yes, Earl and I have had our disagreements in the past, but I respect his opinions.

And yes, I do admit that sometime I tend to go to extremes in expressing myself.

I mean, like, really! Sometimes I even refer to myself as a big fat bitch!

Anyway . . . . .

If you would take some time to read my topic titled THE HORSE THIEVES AMONG US! at:
http://www.sportssuck.org/phpbb2/viewto ... f=1&t=4425

You will then understand where I'm coming from.

It's basically my life's story and I spill my guts even telling about how at the age of 17, I was beaten and raped by an older man.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to admit to such a thing?

Please read that topic I had posted.

Then you will understand why I take such an extreme stance against sports.

Please, and thank you in advance.

I got to go to bed, easter tomorrow, but I will tell you this. People have also linked video games to violence (I.E Columbine kids played DOOM. ZOMGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!11111111111) and we know that's bullshit.
