I understand what you were saying. Sadly, anti-intellectualism is widespread from country to country (regardless of ideology) and is not limited to Communist radicals such as Pol Pot. As for me, I don't look down on physical laborers or intellectuals. That would be stupid. Anyone with any sense should recognize that a modern society needs both groups of people. We couldn't afford to do without one or the other. Everyone knows we live in age of specialists. I could make a very bad, totally unimaginative pun about the kettle calling the Pol Pot black; but that wouldn't be prudent. The Imperialist wrote:Oh my point was, that praise of hard labour (and looking down upon intellectuals) is very communist (teenage communist), never mind Pol Pot.
You may not like my response, but here goes ... My former white judo instructor may sound like a Catholic priest; but, in reality, he's an atheist who holds a lot of religious people in contempt. He certainly had some wacko views, which he probably hasn't changed in all these years. I'm now going to say something else about him. His judo class included several men as well as several other teenage boys. (Incidentally, two of the other teenage boys went on to become Olympic athletes in the martial arts category. I think you might have liked them. They were nicer guys than our instructor.) Anyway, when I had this bizarre conversation with him, he told me that he had known that one of the men in the judo class was a homosexual. He said that he had spoken to the homosexual man in private, warning him that he had better not even think about molesting me! How about that? This was a double insult. He managed to insult both me (again) and the homosexual man. The instructor thought that I could easily be seduced by a homosexual man -- again, an insult to me, since I would have been absolutely offended (not to mention scared) if a man had propositioned me. He also insulted the man himself by implying that just because he was a homosexual, he would molest a boy. Of course, that is false. Pedophilia is not the same as homosexuality. True, some pedophilia is of a homosexual nature; but there is a lot of pedophilia that is heterosexual (i.e., incest). The homosexual man was attracted to other men, not boys. The Imperialist wrote:'Saving one from homosexuality'? My, he sounds like a Catholic priest. (It he was one those hard core, fundamentalist Protestants, I would like to say this up to his face and spit upon his dishonourable and ugly face.)
Good grief. What a depressing topic for a post. Oh, well ... that former instructor is a character, isn't he? I mean in the bad sense of the word. Bad, but (as you say) quite interesting. And his views are laughable.
