I remember many years ago, there was a joke going around, and I have even seen it on bumper stickers and buttons.
IF ABORTION IS MURDER, THEN MISCARRIAGE MUST BE INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER!
Well, some republicans actually want to make it murder and even give women the death penalty if they suffer a miscarriage.

Oh! Yes indeed!

It just keeps on getting better and better every day, in the good ol' USA!

God bless America!!!

Now, some right-wing Retartican whack jobs are advocating the death penalty, not only for doctors who perform abortions, or for women he get abortions, but also, for having a miscarriage!

I kid you not!!!

Ga. Law Could Give Death Penalty for Miscarriages
â?? By Jen Phillips | Wed Feb. 23, 2011 4:32 AM PST

It's only February, but this year has been a tough one for women's health and reproductive rights. There's a new bill on the block that may have reached the apex (I hope) of woman-hating craziness. Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklinâ??who last year proposed making rape and domestic violence "victims" into "accusers"â??has introduced a 10-page bill that would criminalize miscarriages and make abortion in Georgia completely illegal. Both miscarriages and abortions would be potentially punishable by death: any "prenatal murder" in the words of the bill, including "human involvement" in a miscarriage, would be a felony and carry a penalty of life in prison or death. Basically, it's everything an "pro-life" activist could want aside from making all women who've had abortions wear big red "A"s on their chests.

I doubt that a bill that makes a legal medical procedure liable for the death penalty will pass. The bill, however, shows an astonishing lack of concern for women's health and well-being. Under Rep. Franklin's bill, HB 1, women who miscarry could become felons if they cannot prove that there was "no human involvement whatsoever in the causation" of their miscarriage. There is no clarification of what "human involvement" means, and this is hugely problematic as medical doctors do not know exactly what causes miscarriages. Miscarriages are estimated to terminate up to a quarter of all pregnancies and the Mayo Clinic says that "the actual number is probably much higher because many miscarriages occur so early in pregnancy that a woman doesn't even know she's pregnant. Most miscarriages occur because the fetus isn't developing normally."

Holding women criminally liable for a totally natural, common biological process is cruel and nonsensical. Even more ridiculous, the bill holds women responsible for protecting their fetuses from "the moment of conception," despite the fact that pregnancy tests aren't accurate until at least 3 weeks after conception. Unless Franklin (who is not a health professional) invents a revolutionary intrauterine conception alarm system, it's unclear how exactly the state of Georgia would enforce that rule other than holding all possibly-pregnant women under lock and key.

I've seen a lot of anti-woman, hate-filled bills this year, but this one takes the cake. And it's not just anti-woman, it's anti-logic. The bill contends that Georgia is exempt from upholding Supreme Court decisions like Roe v. Wade because the Constitution's Article I only governs five crimes: counterfeiting, piracy, high seas felonies, offenses against the law of nations, and treason. According to the bill, since murder is not one of those five crimes, it should be solely governed by the state. The bill also mandates that doctors must try to save the mother and the fetus, even though as we know, there are many situations in which both cannot be saved. It also changes medical terminology, re-designating all zygotes, embryos, and concepti as fetuses. In the bill's logic, a fertilized egg is the same as a person, and its destruction is murder. Sometimes even a fertilized egg will fail to adhere to the uterine lining, so would that make a uterus a murderer? At least the bill doesn't propose instituting pro-life Stork Bucks or outlawing "space abortions"...yet.
Yeah! Be sure to watch this rather amusing video!

Oh yes indeed! And I just love this one . . .
Bobby Franklinâ??who last year proposed making rape and domestic violence "victims" into "accusers"â??has introduced a 10-page bill that would criminalize miscarriages . . .
So now, there is no such thing as a rape victim anymore. Now, all victims are redefined as accusers.

Uh! Excuse me! Maybe I'm just a dumb-ass and a moron, but when I see a person who is all bruised and battered, and a bloody mess, I would assume that person is a victim, and not just an accuser.

But then, that's just me! OK?

But again, what the Hell do I know?

After all, I'm not a politician, I'm not rich, I don't have a lot of money, so I guess I must be a dumb-ass. Yes, I read a lot, I have a lot of book-smarts, and I have scored 150 points on a standard IQ test, but I still must be a dumb-ass because I'm not rich and into politics. Also, I must be a moron because I never played football and gotten away with rape! Now, that really takes some smarts! Yeah! That's some real rocket science there!

OK, once again . . .
Both miscarriages and abortions would be potentially punishable by death: any "prenatal murder" in the words of the bill, including "human involvement" in a miscarriage, would be a felony and carry a penalty of life in prison or death.
Human involvement, Eh?

OK, what if a pregnant woman gets beaten by her abusive husband and she has a miscarriage as a result.

Would she be brought up on charges of murder because the fetus died, and will she get the death penalty for having a miscarriage?

Of course, her abusive husband would also have to get the death penalty as well, because the beating he gave her caused her to have the miscarriage in the first place. Like, DUH!!!

Actually, I believe that any guy who beats up on his wife and children, or any adult who abuses a child should die.

But hey! It's not the woman's fault if she has a miscarriage as a result of a beating, or having been in an accident, or from an unexpected illness.

And if any woman has a miscarriage, then the burden of proof rests solely on her? So, she has to prove that the miscarriage was not deliberately induced? She has to prove that it was the result of an accident, illness, or injury, or an assault, and if she can't come up with enough proof, then she gets the death penalty?

Oh! How nice!

We live in a very punishment oriented society to the point where we punish innocent people.

The USA has a long, long, long, long, long history of punishing people for things that are not their fault, or what they have no control over.

We can't punish people for being black anymore.

We can't punish children in school for being left-handed anymore.

So, instead, when I went to school, I was punished for having a crippled left knee. I got suspended from school because I failed to climb a rope in the gymnasium, even though I was passing all my other academic subjects.

And so, we have to punish people for something! Don't we?

In the USA, disabled children in some boarding schools are punished with randomly administered electric shocks, even while sleeping, and are forced to drink vinegar with hot sauce and eat mashed potatoes with dried liver powder.

In many schools across the USA, handicapped children are more severely punished for any minor indiscretion than are the more able-bodied children, while athletes are not punished at all.

Football players have committed rape, and have gone unpunished.

So, our society does not punish athletes.

No, we only punish handicapped children, and we actually punish some students who are much too intelligent, while rewarding morons with extra privileges if they're good at sports.

The Republicans (Retardicans) want to insert Creationist fairy tales into high school science textbooks and would actually prefer if science was not taught at all.

And now, the Retardicans now want to execute women for having miscarriages!

No, I'm sorry, but I have to say this.

The Republican party is becoming America's new NAZI party!

Hey! I have an idea!

Why don't they just kill us all and be done with it???

Then, the only ones allowed to live will be middle aged rich white men.

And then, they can just go butt-fuck each other until the human race becomes extinct!

I'm sorry, but I can't think of anything more to say.

This is so outrageous I can't think of anymore good rants!

I'm stunned. This is all just so fucking moronic!

I just have to wonder . . . what kind of an education did our politicians get while growing up and going to school?

Oh! I know!

When they went to school, they only watched cartoons, and learned how to play Charades, and how to fold paper footballs!

Yeah! That's gotta be it!

This guy sounds like a total wacko -- I would hope anyone, regardless of their political leanings, with any human decency or even just plain common sense would oppose this. If I were in this guy's district, I'd immediately start a petition for a recall vote. I don't know if there's a provision in Georgia for the legislator to remove a member (like impeaching the President) but I'd hope that if so, they'd use it.
