OK, this topic is related to another topic I had posted at the Sports Suck! section of these forums.

It is titled . . .

An Ultimatum At Gunpoint From Another Right Wing Bully!!!

The following article is related to the aforementioned article.

Exposing David Bartonâ??s Lies about America
By Dan

Weâ??re glad to see that more Americans are learning the truth about the far rightâ??s minister of propaganda â?? phony historian David Barton. Regular TFN Insider readers already know a lot about Barton and his Texas-based organizationâ??s efforts to destroy basic constitutional protections for religious freedom in America. In addition, the Texas Freedom Network Education Fundâ??s 2006 report on the religious right in Texas exposed Bartonâ??s politicization of religion.

Yesterday MSNBCâ??s Lawrence Oâ??Donnell turned his focus to Barton as well, asking why this fringe right-winger matters. Guest Peter Montgomery of People for the American Way gave Oâ??Donnellâ??s audience a pretty accurate portrayal of the far rightâ??s minister of propaganda. Hereâ??s a little of what Montgomery had to say about Barton:

â??Heâ??s a historian in the same way that the creationists who teach that the world is 6,000 years old are scientists. They comb through history, looking for one little scrap of evidence, and they ignore mountains of evidence to the contrary.â?

â??By making every issue a religious issue and claiming that God has one particular position â?? and Barton will tell you that the Bible mandates the far-right position on everything, not just abortion and gays but immigration and economic policies â?? he then says if youâ??re wrong, if you disagree with him, youâ??re not just wrong on the issues, but youâ??re anti-God. . . . We believe thatâ??s dangerous and itâ??s bad for democracy. If youâ??re opponents are â??evil,â?? it makes it a lot harder to have a real conversation about policy and to reach compromise. It makes it very hard to solve are problems.â?

â?¦

â??I think a lot of Christians would not recognize the Bible as David Barton promotes it.â?

David Barton: Americaâ??s Greatest Historian
Submitted by Kyle on October 20, 2008 - 11:04am

I mentioned the return of the Texas Restoration Project a few months ago and then promptly forgot about it. Fortunately, the folks at Talk 2 Action have a better memory than I do and actually attended the event and provide an inside report.

Back when he was running in the GOP primary, Mike Hucakbee praised right-wing pseudo-historian David Barton as perhaps "the greatest living historian on the spiritual nature of America's early days." But it seems that, since dropping out, his opinion of Barton has only increased because he is now calling him the "single best historian in America today":

According to candidate Mike Huckabee, history revisionist David Barton is the best historian our country has to offer the nation. Barton's best seller, The Myth of Separation of Church and State, violates the basic tenets of the Baptist faith Huckabee was ordained into and is still a member. This view by Huckabee about Barton was uttered at the Texas Restoration Project meeting in Austin, Texas, October 9-10th. Helping to host and speak at the event were Barton, Huckabee and Governor Perry - the state GOP official. On a first-to-call basis, the pastors of the state's churches, as well as their wives, were invited to come and stay free of charge in a $250/night Hilton Hotel room. Over 1,000 showed up, and it was announced that several hundred more wanted to attend, but could not because there was no room for them. Perry sits atop a state platform that wants to pull the nation out of the U.N., abolish the U.S. Department of Education, appeal minimum wage and do away with Social Security. Not to mention the platform affirms giving state money to religious schools and wants to dispel the myth of separation of church and state.

Huckabee and good buddy David Barton were up next, and between sessions provided photo opts for admiring pastors. Huckabee said this was a spiritual, not a political meeting, and he preached to the crowd. In spite of the get out the vote drive and lamenting of the false concept of separation of church and state, the mixture of pulpit and ballot continued â?¦ Huckabee introduced his friend David Barton as a man God raised up for the moment. Mike knew of no other man in the country having such a great impact on the land.

Next, Barton did his Christian-nation thing and stated the Bible had something to say about minimum wage and estate taxes. Evidently, that meant the text was against them both. A common religious right position in voter guides is that minimum wage is immoral. Barton told several stories of heroic Revolutionary War pastors who left the pulpit and led the men of the church into killing English troops. He lamented that this is what is needed today to restore the nation: That is, motivated and active pastors who lead out. Barton then said that separation of church and state, which he stated - is not in the Constitution - and only applies to the state interference in the church - a common religious right position.

Voter guides from Barton's organization were placed at the tables where we sat. There was a sign-up sheet to list name, email and church information. Morning speakers reminded us that the glory of God has been lost in the nation, and the Bible and prayer have been expelled from schools. The key question was what the church would do about these things. Barton proceeded to defend his position that the two key issues of the election centered around abortion and gay rights. He said the Bible taught that these were the key priority issues and poverty, environment, justice, civil rights and the prospect of an unjust war all sat as minor ethical issues compared to the other two. He explained that in the past few elections, laws have been enacted by Christians to limit abortions. That was - he admitted - until the 2006 elections. He conceded pro-life forces lost ground. His conclusion was that a get out the vote effort in 2008 could reverse this. David stated that what a person believed about abortion defined how one would vote regarding all other legislative issues. Barton reminded the group that judicial appointments will define our culture. He then explained to the pastors that for the past 50 years government has told pastors what to say in the pulpit. The Texan then complained that the government did a terribly inefficient job of helping the poor. It would better for the churches to hand out this money and do drug and prison rehab. He restated, "The church has got to be involved in the election."

We werenâ??t there so obviously we donâ??t know exactly what Bartonâ??s presentation was like, but if you want to get a sense of how Barton typically uses his biased history of America to promote the Religious Rightâ??s political and electoral agenda, you can watch him do so here.
David Barton: Jesus Opposed The Minimum Wage

David Barton tells the Rediscover God In America Conference that the Bible should be the guide on taxation and Jesus opposed the minimum wage.
--------------------------------------------------

So, this David Barton is opposed to the minimum wage law. I guess he expects the poor to work 16 hours per day for only 50 cents per hour, or some shit like that. And if you're hungry, you just go to the nearest soup line in front of your nearest church for a small bowl of soup and a single slice of stale white bread.

And he's against Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Oh, and anybody who disagrees with him is not merely wrong on the issues, but you are evil and anti-God!!!

OK, now I understand.

I support Darwin's Theory of Evolution. I don't believe that the earth is a mere 6000 years old, but that it is in fact, 4.5 billion years old, and the universe is at least 13 billion years old. I have always enjoyed studying science and reading books on Evolution, and Astronomy. So, I'm evil!!!

I'm disabled and I'm living on Social Security and SSI, and I get Medicaid and Medicare. My disability is due to PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the result having been beaten and abused while growing up, and having spent three weeks in a mental hospital after an emotional and mental breakdown, where I was then beaten some more and raped, and when I got out I was so screwed up in the head I couldn't hold onto a job, so when I turned 18 years old, my parents had to help me to apply for a disability pension.

After that, I made some attempts to either get part time jobs, and to go back to school again. Yes I did have three years of college, but I never completed my degree. I was majoring in Astronomy and Physics, but I was under a lot of emotional stress and had another mental breakdown.

But now I know, I'm evil and anti-God!

Why?

Because . . .

1.) I support science education, Darwin's Theory of Evolution, and I like to study Astronomy.

2.) I support the minimum wage law and I believe that the minimum wage should be raised to keep up with inflation.

3. ) I'm living on a disability pension and I get Medicare and Medicaid.

So, that's makes me evil and anti-God.

But the older man who had beaten and raped me back when I was 17 years old, he's OK, because he was a regular church going Christian, therefore, he was not evil, unlike me! So, because I'm evil and anti-God, I guess I deserved to get beaten and raped!

No, I have never committed any crimes. I have never stolen anything from anybody. I have never harmed another person in my life.

I only wanted to be left alone to do the things I enjoy doing, like oil paintings (can't do that anymore because of my crippled up left hand and fractured wrist) reading books on science, and I wanted to build a telescope, but my own brother interfered with that. My own brother was a conceited bully.

So, I'm evil and anti-God!!!

YEAH! I'M EVIL AND ANTI-GOD! I DESERVE TO DIE!!! I'M WORTHLESS!!! I'M NO GOOD AT SPORTS! I DON'T LIKE FOOTBALL, SO I'M A FAG AND A COMMIE!!! I DISAGREE WITH DAVID BARTON SO I'M NOT MERELY IN ERROR, NO, THAT MAKES ME EVIL AND ANTI-GOD!!!

I'M EVIL! I'M EEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVILLL!!! I'M SATAN'S DISCIPLE!

MMMMMMMMMUUUUUUUAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

YEAH! I'M GOING TO HELL!!!

SO, COME ON ALL YOU GOOD CHRISTIAN REPUBLICANS!

COME AND KILL ME!!! I DESERVE TO DIE!!!

COME AND BEAT ME WITH A CHAIN!!!

TIE ME TO A TELEPHONE POLE IN THE TOWN SQUARE AND BEAT ME TO DEATH WITH A CHAIN!

YA KNOW YA WANT TO!!!

THEN TURN A FLAME THROWER ON ME AND BURN ME TO A CRISP!

Yes, now I know the truth!

I'm evil and anti-God because I disagree with David Barton.

So, you may kill me now.

You would love very much to do away with minimum wage, Social Security, SSI, Medicare and Medicaid, so that many of us will die in the streets.

Let's just make it quick! Come and kill me now! OK?

Hey, David Barton!

I'll even send you an E-mail telling you where I live so you will be able to find me and kill me!

Let's just get this over with!

OK?

Hello Fat Man!

Ironically, if Jesus and his disciples were alive today, they'd likely be too "liberal" for most Christians!

I mean, didn't Jesus tell his disciples to sell what they had, and give the money to the poor? Sounds like socialism to me!

And here he was, healing people of diseases for free -- what was that, some early form of "Obamacare"?

I've heard it said Jesus would probably be kicked out of most Christian churches today!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

If Jesus were to come back today, those so-called "Christians" like David Barton, Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swaggart, etc. etc. would most likely crucify Jesus all over again. First they would beat him with a chain with sharp blades attached and giving him more than 39 stripes. He would be beaten over 100 times, then they would nail him up-side-down on a telephone pole where everybody can watch, then they would break all his bones with a lead pipe, gouge out his eyes, rip out his tongue, cut his throat, and finally, set him on fire!

That's how they would do it now!

Yeah, uh huh! To disagree with David Barton is to rebel against God!

YEAH RIGHT!!!

It sounds to me like he's making himself out to be God!

It's like, who the fucking Hell died, and made him God? Eh?

David Barton is only a man!

NO! I take that back!

He's less than a man!

He's just a worm, an insect, a dung beetle batting away at his little ball of muck, and fooling himself that he trundles the sun!

I'm getting tired of hearing these moronic Retardicans spouting off their tired old standard clichés that has been done to death a thousand times over since the McCarthy years.

For all I care, these unimaginative, business-as-usual, seven-carbon sons of bitches to go take a flying fuck at a galloping goose!!!

Ah! Alas, Babylon!!!

Well, I'm tired, and feeling really depressed.

I'm going to kick back, smoke my pipe, then have something to eat, then go to bed sometime after midnight.

And cry myself to sleep!
