International I Hate Sports Club

I briefly visited this site years ago, and then I though it had vanished (the site administrator was getting too busy to keep it up).

Anyway; my attitude is that it is not sports that suck; but the attitude that EVERYONE is supposed to like it that bothers me. Well, that and my bad experiences with baseball as a kid (I'll have that for another post) which made liking team sports comparable to being a masochist (liking misery).

It occurs to me that people who don't think people should have the freedom to not like team sports do not believe in freedom with regard to that particular topic.

I also believe that my most basic right as an individual is the right to be an individual (and choose for myself what I like and don't like). As such, trying to force me to like team sports is a violation of my most basic right!

Edhoover - you are properly making a distinction between media (almost always MAINSTREAM media) and culture versus sports.

Take my level of hatred of sports = H

and raise it to itself H^(H^(H^...)...) H times
and that describes my hatred of mainstream media.

THAT is a life-threatening issue. Just google the keywords "media, reform"
and you'll find links to websites and YouTube videos on that massive, serious issue.

Welcome back! I think most of us agree with you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing softball or basketball or whatever. It's healthy for kids to run around kicking a soccer ball. What I don't like is that it's EXPECTED that you must like it and like it as if your life depended on it or be considered a weirdo. You know? That paint-your-face HOOO! HOOO! HOOO! mentality.
