International I Hate Sports Club

Well, i woke up this fine new years day, and went to the gym. There was only one other person there (because everyone around here is too lazy too work out.)
I didnt mind the company, per se...but then it HAPPENED. He walked over to the tv on the wall (which i had OFF) and proceeded to turn it on. What was on? A COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME. I thought he was going to change the channel. But no, he proceeds to step on the treadmill, and watch while he runs. I quickly finished my workout and walked out in disgust thinking "here we go again. Another year of sports." I wondered, "what is this guy GETTING out of this?" A rhetorical question of course.
I was disgusted, but at least he wasnt yelling like an animal, you know how the sheeple do when a tv is turned on with a sporting event permeating the air.
Oh well. Happy new year. I will get over it.

Unfortunately, too many people have become slaves to Master Sport. They're like robots. "Game...on. Must...watch. End communication."

Yes, well it's a new year, and this one seems suspiciously like the old one. I'm beginning to think they just took last year and slapped a new number on it. I don't see any bug fixes, new features or even any new documentation. I've got half a mind to return the d*mn thing and demand a refund. Anyone else feeling the same way?

And we managed to get through a whole year without any sports bores writing in to the Letters section! That's only happened one other time; in 2004. Maybe it's got something to do with leap years? I guess we'll find out in 2012!

I noticed that too! I meant to mention it, but I never did. I didn't know there were no letters from sports bores in 2004 though. I thought this was the first time.

Were there really letters prior to 2002? I wanna see!

I mean, as much as i despise sports, and as much as im in the minority, you would think that i would feel INFERIOR? Im not saying im better than other people-Or am I saying that? I guess i just feel like i "get it" more. Like i understand the important things in life, and I am not one of the sheep. BAHHHHH!!! Time to watch the BAAAAAHHHH-LLL GAAAAA-AME!!!

I am observant and discerning. Its a good feeling, indeed. And while i sort of like being in the minority, and having my own point of view, it is at the same time annoying nonetheless.

I do think there are people out there that "like" sports just so they dont feel left out of the "group". Im not sure what is more pathetic; the die hard sports fan, or the person that assimilates him/herself for fear of being alone, ostracized, or whatever.

Oh well.

Haha, now that's clever! I still have some optimism left for the new year since it has only begun. But in all honesty, probably not much is going to change in regard to the sheeple.

offensive? It's an f'ing football game Clearly, the guy who turned it on assumed that moviemaker was like the MAJORITY of people who liked sports.

You talk as if sports fans think sports are life or death. They are simply a means of entertainment, and something you can enjoy and not think about lifes' problems. Doesn't mean sports fans don't get it. Most presidents are sports fans. You "get it" more so than them?

I agree, for the most part. This site is also a means of entertainment. A lot of Presidents have made stupid decisions, I don't necessarily think they always "get it".

Yeah, being a sports fan alone doesn't make you stupid. But I think the stereotype probably exists because sports fans are a significant majority in this country, and as a result it tends to make them be associated with the herd mentality. That, and sports events can attract a bad element, like people who love aggression. I remember this one girl was in a wheelchair, trying to convert people to Christianity at a sporting event (not an activity I endorse, but one I tolerate), and somebody else there pointed at her and yelled "you're on crack!" Not all sports fans are like that, nor do sports really make them that way, but aggressive types sometimes like aggressive events. Just like the Columbine killers probably didn't do what they did because of Doom, but were attracted to it because of their mindset. I've been a sports fan and a gamer and I've never killed anyone nor told them that they're on crack.

That said, continually trying to convert die hard sports haters for no apparent reason probably doesn't give them a favorable impression of your intelligence, regardless of how you act otherwise like putting together good arguments or whatnot.

Yes! I feel superior too! One of my favorite books is the Fountain Head by Ayn Rand. In it, the hero, Howard Roark, goes through his life as an idealist. He refuses to conform to the popular opinion of the day or go along with the crowd just to be popular and accepted. He steadfastly clings to his principles throughout his life even though it costs him dearly. He is shunned by society. But in the end, it pays off. He is recognized as the true genius he really is --finally.
