I agree mostly with this. Both sports and bullying are largely responsible for bullying. I've been made fun of because I couldn't care less about the clothing I wear, and I rarely go shopping unless I am buying records and CDs, and most of my shirts are band t-shirts from concerts I have attended. Since these shirts aren't made by the popular brands, and since these bands aren't popular bands, I'm made fun of for the clothing I wear. And I'm a male, you should see how females are treated if they don't dress fashionably and follow trends.

Well, when I buy clothes in my size, I have to go to Casual Male XL or order clothes from a catalog that specializes in larger sizes because I weigh about 400 pounds and I have a 64 inch waist, and clothing in larger sizes cost a lot more.

Of course, the do have some really cool styles.

When I was only 15 years old I had to get pants for a 42 inch waist, and I couldn't get my size at just any K Mart, my mother had to order my pants from a catalog. Now the have pants in any K Mart or Walmart for up to a size 56 inch waist, which is now too small for me.

Yes, women are under more pressure than us guys.

Young teenage girls are literally starving themselves TO DEATH to get down to a size 2 of a size ZERO, and now they even have clothing in a size -2, I kid you not, a negative 2.

Hollywood and the fashion industry has young teenage girls brainwashed into believing anything over a size 4 is considered obese!

The way this country is going, well . . . . . it's just all kinds of wrong!!!

Interesting this story is actually like month or two old. There's always plus and minuses as technology becomes more advance. Generally the more advance something is the more it becomes exploited. Technology opens doors sometimes good and sometimes bad. To 1981, after generation(or decades) gets a new set of problems, depressions, recessions, wars, new diseases, etc. I haven't read that novel you spoke of but I'm assuming your describing a world where electronics are integrated in every aspect of our daily lives with no privacy at all. That future may be possible but I really doubt it will be any time in the future, the status of many third world countries will likely not change in the near future due to their own internal problems such as corruption like my birth land of the Philippines. The world may be connected(online) but doesn't mean its modernized as a whole.
On another note, who fricking brings a laptop to the bathroom while they shower?!

Suffered under Darth Sidius, electrocuted, survived and partied with Ewoks. He descended to the Death Star, on the third hour he flew out in an Imperial ship and landed on Endor. He is seated on the right hand of Obi-Wan's ghost. He will come again to train Leia to be a Jedi. We believe? in Yoda.........:D

Well, I remember when I was a teenager, I would bring a radio into the bathroom and listen to rock music while taking a shower, so I don't think it's so unusual to bring in a laptop and set in on the counter to listen to music while showering.

But I didn't have to worry that my radio was spying on me, unlike a laptop with a webcam.

Well, as long as you don't have it IN the shower then there should be no serious problems as long as a) it's a good few metres away from the actual cubicle and b) you've at least dried your arms and hands before handling it! Water and electricity most certainly don't contribute to good human health!
Well, when I mentioned the book Nineteen Eighty-Four I was referring to a society in which every aspect of people's lives was monitored by a supreme power, the totalitarian government, who would not tolerate the slightest bit of insubordinance or criticism. The lack of privacy and constant surveillance is what Fat Man is trying to get at in his posts. But the fact it's done on children who should be entitled to a bit more freedom in their young years is slightly disturbing. The fact it appears to be being perpetrated off the school grounds as well further disturbs me. What happens before and after school off the grounds of the building should not be the responsibility of the school. They should leave that to the parents and law enforcements if there is a problem. People should respect these limits and know when their time for authority is done otherwise it doesn't become about protecting the students but invasion of privacy.
I can't say I'm that averse to Fat Man's remarks. Grown adults who snoop on schoolchildren are the dregs of society. I always had it down as being extremely low, cowardly and manipulative to target a person smaller, weaker and more vulnerable than yourself. It's no wonder these sorts of people get such a hard time in prison - they're being educated about starting problems with people their own size. Yes, some of it is extreme, but I have been disgusted and shocked by many a story involving adults abusing children and think that they should be taught to initiate conflicts with people their own size. It's something looked very badly upon in the world today, perpetrating offences when the victim is quite clearly unable to defend themselves against their predator. It's nothing that can really be justified and so the punishments should be severe. What kind of a person goes out of their way to terrorise the younger, weaker and more vulnerable? A coward, a bully - someone who needs to be taught a rather blunt lesson.

If I remember, you once said that you are a fashion model.

Fashion, and sports, are merely two sides of the same evil coin!

Sports inspires bullying, beatings, rape, and death!

Fashion inspires eating disorders, anorexia, and death!

I'm not at all surprised that people in sports and fashion would defend pedophilia and call it voyeurism!

Yeah! Sports and fashion, two sides of the same evil coin.
I wish to dissociate myself from these comments. Sparkle is a nice person, and that is a foul thing you said about her. Yes, this is a ranting board; and every member has the right to speak out. But that means I also have the right to disagree. For months I've not felt free to always speak my mind. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I cannot remain silent any longer.

Aside from the pedophiles themselves and the deranged leadership of the ACLU, who defends pedophilia? The answer is "No one."

Good evening Earl.

OK, I guess I put my foot in my mouth again.

But I'm disgusted with BOTH sports and fashion.

Also, I wanted to make Sparkle aware that spying on children when they are undressing goes way beyond mere voyeurism.

If it involves watching adults, then it's voyeurism.

But if it involves spying on children, then it's NOT mere voyeurism.

Yes, I should have explained it in a more appropriate manner.

I'm so angry and upset over this whole webcam spying incident that sometimes I lose control over what I'm saying, but I have always had difficulties controlling my emotions.

Again, my apologies.

Your apologies are accepted, Fat Man. You're a big man for not getting mad at me, as I feared you would.

Of course, there are valid criticisms to be made of the fashion industry and the sports culture. I have a personal grievance against the sports culture as well. But that doesn't mean that all fashion models and all men who have enjoyed participating in a sport are jerks or should be made to suffer for the rest of their lives. The guilt of the guilty rests upon individuals, not groups. Let us not become the mirror image of Samdaman and his ilk (assuming he has not grown up in the last few years).

And I appreciate the distinction you make between watching adults undress and watching children undress. The FBI is investigating what happened. Surely the truth will eventually come out. At least I hope it will.

Remember, the reproaches of a friend are to be valued far more than the flattery of fools.

Fat Man, not every model is a size 0.

Those are from my own portfolio. Never been a size 0. Never want to be. The modeling industry has changed and they don't want everyone to die. Tyra Banks has given plus size models the same open call as smaller girls on America's Next Top Model. Maybe u can admit things are improving from ten years ago?

Then you think, you've made a mark on the world if you just get through it, and a few people remember your name. Then you've left a mark. You don't have to bend the whole world. I think it's better to just enjoy it. Pay your dues, and just enjoy it. If you shoot an arrow and it goes real high, hooray for you.*

OK, you're right.

I have heard recently, that now, the modeling profession is not going to allow modeling anything smaller than a size 8 unless a smaller model can show medical proof that she does not have any eating disorders and that she is just naturally smaller than a size 8.

The average American women is a size 16, so a size 8 is still rather slender, but at least it's not anorexic.

So, I have heard that reforms are being made, but Hollywood sill has difficulty in accepting the concept of fashion shows for plus size models. Me, I like larger women.

Also, there needs to be some reforms in the Miss America Pageant.

I remember back in 1980, my mother and I watched a Miss America Pageant and the average size was around 5 feet 9 inches and about 130 pounds, which I though was a little too thin for that height. But I saw a much more recent pageant about a year ago where some model was 5 feet 10 inches and only 108 pounds. Now, that is way way way too thin! I mean, like, seriously!!!

So, there needs to be reforms in that institution.

Now, if only there can be some reforms in the sports profession as well.

OK, now getting back on topic again . . . . .

. . . . . most of all, we need reforms in our educational system.

Oh, and by the way, need I remind you that spying on children in the nude is NOT voyeurism? It's pedophilia!

If it was spying on adults then it would be voyeurism.

But if it's spying on kids, then it's pedophilia!

Got that???

Oh, by the way. Nice pics! :D :D :D

People at work have accepted my naff lifestyle. We have a laugh about it. Of course, when you're in school being different is not something they want you to be proud of. There is a far larger emphasis on conforming and fitting in when you're at school and this has become even stronger in recent years with the popularisation of social networking sites like Facebook. Nowadays I hear social status is judged by how many friends one has on Facebook or how much they've jazzed their profile up. Several of my work colleagues have them as well... in fact, most of them, with the exception of myself and a few others. But nobody cares. We have learned to accept each other's differences and joke around. Part of growing up is learning to accept the differences between people and to treat people based on what they are like as a person and not what their interests or backgrounds are. Believe me, there was a time when I felt I'd always be persecuted for being different to everyone else, even in my adult years, but now it is over and people have learned to like my obsession with the old times. And I too have benefitted from seeing the tolerance and acceptance in other people. One day, when you shake off the idiots at your school who want to persecute you for not fitting in, you will be glad that you remained an individual and not one of the mindless crowd. If they resort to bullying as a way of treating those with different interests to them then they aren't really worth much as friends, are they? I quickly came to realise that with the majority of my high school year back in the 90's. They were all so friendly and nice to each other and had plenty of good friendships, but they just could not stand knowing that there was one person who didn't conform to their expectations. It really ate them up for some reason and I had to pay the price for their narrow-mindedness. At the time I wished they would learn to accept me but looking back now, I can't say I'm bothered they didn't. Intolerance of other people should never allow one to abandon one's personal interests.

I somewhat disagree with these statements. No one I know that watches or play sports have ever been inspired to bully, beat, rape, or kill. Although it does feel good to be someone at a sport you know they're good at. That feeling of dominance can never be matched. Fashion does inspire teenagers to be thin to a certain degree, but I don't know of anyone who has an eating disorder because they thrive to look skinny. Some of my girl(hyphen)friends are actually proud of the fact that they're slightly overweight, despite how much I loathe their lack of effort to lose weight.

I think you meant to say "beat someone at a sport you know they're good at". Nonetheless, I see what you mean. If somebody's getting incredibly smug about their achievements in a certain field, to the extent where they're rubbing it in people's faces about how good they are and how they can't be matched, it must be very satisfying to knock their ego down a bit by outdoing them in that area. But the fact that sports allow people to feel dominion over others opens up possibilities for humiliations, bullying and mockery. To feel dominant and superior is acceptable, but to abuse and intimidate others to display these feelings is not acceptable at all, and frankly, that is how a lot of people do it these days. Everybody seems to be fighting to be top dog in a certain way, and want others to know about it.
