"We believe in Vader, the Darth almighty, destroyer of Alderaan and the Sith. We believe in Luke, his only son, our Jedi. He was concieved by the power of the Force, and born of the senator Padme. Suffered under Darth Sidius, electrocuted, survived and partied with Ewoks. He descended to the Death Star, on the third hour he flew out in an Imperial ship and landed on Endor. He is seated on the right hand of Obi-Wan's ghost. He will come again to train Leia to be a Jedi. We believe? in Yoda.........:D

Here's a song by The Dead Kennedys (a punk band started in 1978) called Jock-O-Rama, released in 1985. I'm sure a lot of you will like it. And if you don't like the music, you can read the lyrics if you want:
You really like gorillas?
We've got just the pet for you
It's the way you're forced to act
To survive our schools

Make your whole life revolve around sports
Walk tough-don't act too smart
Be a mean machine
Then we'll let you get ahead

Jock-O-Rama-Save my soul
We're under the thumb of the Beef Patrol
The future of America is in their hands
Watch it roll over Niagara Falls
Pep rally in the holy temple
And you're forced to go
Masturbate en masse
With the favored religious cult
Cheerleaders yell-"Ra Ra Team"
From the locker room parades the prime beef
When archaeologists dig this up
They'll either laugh or cry

Jock-O-Rama-On the brain
Redneck-a-thon drivin' me insane
The future of America is in their hands
Watch it roll over Niagara Falls
Unzip that old time religion
On the almighty football field
Beerbellies of all ages
Come to watch the gladiators bleed
"Now boys, this game ain't played for fun
You're going out there to win
How d'ya win?
Get out there
And snap the other guy's knee!"

Beat 'em up! Beat 'em up!
Ra Ra Ra
Snap those spinal cords
Ha Ha Ha

The star quarterback lies injured
Unconscious on the football field
Looks like his neck's been broken
Seems to happen somewhere every year

His mom and dad clutch themselves and cry
Their favorite son will never walk again
Coach says, "That boy gave a hundred percent
What spirit
What a man"

But who cares?
Games over-Let's go get wasted man
To the 7-11, to the liquor store
Let's party all night and party some more

Another Trans-Am
Wrapped itself around a telephone pole
"I ain't drunk, officer
I just fell gettin' out of my car"

Don't worry about it, son
We were that way when we were young
You've got all the skills
To make a damn good businessman

Jock-O-Rama-that's the law
Come lick the butts of the Beef Patrol
If the future of America is handed to them
Watch it roll over Niagara Falls

A song that starts with "You really like gorillas?" I haven't even read past that first line and I'm laughing.

Thanks for posting those "Jock-O-Rama" lyrics, HugeFanOfBadReligion. All I knew about the Dead Kennedys before, were the songs "Holiday In Cambodia", and my favourite one of theirs - "California Uber Alles". I like that one because it has a good freaky beginning, and it really cooks along. But thanks for those lyrics. Very interesting indeed!

This is an interview with one of my favourite intellectuals, Christopher Hitchens, who has quite recently been diagnosed with cancer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgCq2T-v ... r_embedded

I was quite upset when I first heard the news of his diagnosis, a lot of his views have had a large influence on me. I really enjoyed his book "God Is Not Great", and I will likely read his recently published memoir "Hitch-22" in time. I hope he gets better, even if the odds may be against him.

Sad to hear about Hitchens, I respect even more that even cancer won't shake him away from truth.

Two polar opposite games:

Crazy, fast, and insanely fun. God shark.

A simple masterpiece that calms and entertains.

A February 24, 2007 article of the Ottawa Citizen newspaper titled "He was just a common soldier" that I read tells a story of a veteran who enlisted in 1939, and a while after his service ended, he re-enlisted in 1949. He ended up being a janitor of the House of Commons, and then the Official Carekeeper of the Prime Minister's Office until his death at the age of 85. He died the week before this article was posted. Before he died, he made very specific arrangements for after his death, such as a poem to be posted in the obituary. The reason why I'm posting right now is to post this poem in the article that was to be left in the obituary. The poem is called Just a Common Soldier (A Soldier Died Today) by A. Lawrence Vaincourt. I'm retyping this from the newspaper, forgive me if there are any typos.
Just a Common Soldier (A Soldier Died Today)
A. Lawrence Vaincourt
He was getting old and paunchy
and his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he had fought in
and the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
they were heroes, every one.
And tho' sometimes, to his neighbors,
his tales became a joke,
All his Legion buddies listened,
for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer
for old Bill has passed away.
And the world's a little poorer,
for a soldier died today.
He will not be mourned by many,
just his children and his wife,
For he lived an ordinary
And quite uneventful life.
Held a job and raised a family,
quietly going his own way,
And the world won't note his passing,
though a soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth,
their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing
and proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell their whole life stories,
from the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier
goes unnoticed and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution
to the welfare of our land
A guy who breaks his promises
and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow who,
in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his Country
and offers up his life?
A politician's stipend
and the style in which he lives
Are sometimes disproportionate
to the service that he gives.
While the ordinary soldier,
who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
and perhaps, a pension small.
It's so easy to forget them
for it was so long ago,
That the old Joes of our Country
went to battle, but we know
It was not the politicians,
with their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
that our country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger,
with your enemies at hand,
Would you want a politician
with his ever-shifting stand?
Or would you prefer a soldier,
who has sworn to defend
His home, his kin and Country
and would fight until the end?
He was just a common soldier
and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
we may need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict,
then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor
while he's here to hear the praise
Then at least let's give him homage
at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline
in a paper that would say,
Our Country is in mourning,
for a soldier died today

Quite an addictive game here:

http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bells.htm

See how many points you can get up to. I've heard claims on YouTube that some people have got up to scores of about 1 quintillion - that's 1 followed by 18 zeros. I personally think it's bullshit but if anyone gets that far (honestly), I'd be interested to hear how you did it and how long it took.

If they got that far, they must be very bored, and have nothing useful to do at the time.
