Fortunately, once you get to the college level, you get more flexibility in choices. (Unless it's a really really small college.)
I fulfilled my two PE classes with a weight-lifting course and a step-aerobics class. I still wasn't great at either...but I'm sure I did better with them that if I had taken Basketball or some other god-awful sports-related PE. :P

Efforts are now being made to reform PE on the junior-high and high-school levels, but the proponents of PE reform have their work cut out for them. Sports-related PE has actually discouraged nonathletic students from being physically active and pursuing some sort of physical fitness regimen. Forcing competitive team sports upon nonathletic kids creates a social divide between them and the athletic kids, which is frequently accompanied by bullying. As a middle-aged member of a health club, I can look back at my boyhood PE experience and see that I and the other nonathletic boys were cheated. PE was ONLY about competitive sports. Weightlifting wasn't even offered. Ironically, the opposition to PE reform (which, I believe, would result in more kids becoming physically fit) comes from close-minded coaches and other mindless sports fans, NOT sports haters!

Yea, and I don't know why they can't accept the fact that P.E. has no real benefits, as you - Earl- and many others have mentioned. I guess it's either all about tradition or the saying holds true:

PE and health related courses have more practical benefits than any math course besides geometry or probability.

probably geometry too.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MONKEY-BOY!!!

You just confirmed what I have believed all along about you gutter-thugs!

So, you say that PE is more important than math???

Well, let me tell you . . . . .

It's science and math that keeps the wheels turning, and makes our technological way of life possible, so you monkey-boys can reminisce about your former glory days watching DVD recordings of your past sports accomplishments on your big screen TVs, while sitting on a plastic covered couch, pissing your pants and drooling from the corners of your mouth!!!

Once again, thanks for the confirmation!

"practical benefits"

Things like algebra and calculus aren't used by most people, only people who's job includes that. Things like engineering, and such.

When I say PE, I mean fitness.

EVERYONE needs to learn about health and fitness.

Oh yes indeed! Health and fitness!

Yeah! I felt really fit and healthy after getting punched in the stomach with a basketball!

And I suppose the time I was suspended from school because I failed to climb a rope in the gymnasium, I guess that was also for my health.

And being forced to watch cartoons in the science class, while my science teacher was out coaching his team of pre-frontally lobotomized baboons, I guess that was suppose to be good for my mental health.

Oh, and lets not forget the teacher who bashed my head against a brick wall because he did not want me reading Astronomy books! I felt really fit and healthy after that!

And being used as a human punching bag, yeah, that's also good for one's health.

As a result of my head injuries, I've become obese, appetite out of control, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress, all of that was done to me in the name of physical fitness!

I believe I would have been far better off and much healthier today if there were no PE in our schools. I would be more successful in my life, and better able to take care of myself.

To me, math was very important. I had my mind set on a career in science, and I needed math, like algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus for that.

All the modern technology we have today, and all the benefits we derive from it would not be possible without math.

Where do you think all of your high-tech toys that you enjoy so much came from? Eh?

Sorry little boy, but I got some very bad new for you!

There is no Santa Clause. There is no Easter Bunny. And their is no tooth fairy.

For all of your fancy high-tech toys, THANK A NERD!!! THANK A TECHNO-GEEK!!!

Remember that when you're out driving your 100 thousand dollar Hummer that you are privileged to park all day long in a 15 minute parking zone without getting a ticket, just because you're a monkey-boy!

And also, if you're an over-privileged monkey-boy, you can guzzle down gallons of booze, pickle your liver, and be the first in line for a liver transplant, while an innocent 12 year old child dies waiting for the same compatible organ, that you get to have first, because you're an over-privileged monkey-boy!!!

Well, I'll tell you what . . . . .

Why don't you just chug down 2 cases of beer, and see how many times you can wrap your 100 thousand dollar Hummer around a telephone pole!!!

Good day sir!!!

I wasn't learning fitness in gym class when some idiot purpously threw a basketball at my nuts and I was down on the ground and getting laughed at.

While I feel terrible for what happened to you while you were in school, what happened to you was an isolated incident and is not indicative of what goes on throughout schools today.

Oh yes indeed!

That is the best thing yet for a person's health!

Gee! I always wanted to get hit in the nuts with a basketball!

I'm sorry I missed the health benefits from that one.

Well, I think I'll just take my cane and whack myself in the nuts until I'm much stronger and healthier than I am now.

See ya all later!

I got some ball-whacking to do!!!

i HOPE you are not trying to excuse what those two kids at Columbine did.

Bullying is and will always be apart of schools. It gets much more mild as you get to high school, but for whatever reason, kids can be cruel.

Those kids at Columbine went through what many other kids go through on a daily basis. Do those kids go on killing sprees?

What happened to you was more extreme than bullying, given what you told me.

No, I'm not trying to excuse what those two kids did!

I do understand what they did, and I understand why the did it, but I'm not excusing it.

But you should know this . . . . .

It was not simply a case of a couple of "bad apples" in the barrel, but rather, Columbine was not an apple barrel, but in truth, a pickle barrel.

Those two boys, they started out in life, perfectly innocent, two sweet young cucumbers that were plunged into the pickle barrel.

So, if you put a sweet young cucumber in a pickle barrel, then don't blame the cucumber if it becomes a pickle!

I do. And that point is irrelevant. You need to reread the middle paragraph of the front page of http://www.sportssuck.org.

What is relevant is my being crapped on by hardcore sports fans who become inanely offended at the fact that I make that very choice you describe. The choice not to watch or participate, or to have any interest in it at all.
