Sports are what drains funding from other, more worthy pursuits at school.
AMEN!
My sister plays Varsity basketball for her HS. She is a pretty good kid. She gets great grades and is very trustworthy. Sadly this is not the norm. Most of her teammates are arrogant snots.
Not that I wasn't at that age too, but there weren't endless funds supporting my behaviors touting me as a god if I won a game for the "school."
Sports activities are supposed to be for supporting the school, right? How can you support the WHOLE school when there are only TEN players for BOTH teams that even get exercise or the chance to participate?
If people want to play sports in their spare time, that's fine. At least they are PARTICIPATING.
School sports are for less than 1% of the population that attends. No learning takes place.
If school sports truly teach anything, it's that not enough emphasis is placed upon ACTUAL LEARNING.
Look around you, watch the news, or quiz your kids on current events. The current worldwide economic crisis surely isn't being solved by sports at any rate.
Just my two cents. First post here. Love this site and its whole premise. See you around!
EDIT: 5 players on each team in basketball, not 10. My bad.
