Well, some sports do require tactical and specialist knowledge, I'll grant them that. But not stuff like rugby - no, you're right if you're talking about that shit. That's just an excuse for men to act out homoerotic fantasies in the safety of a sporting context. No brains needed whatsoever.
Best guestbook comment ever!:
I THINK ALL SPORTS ARE TOTAL RUBBISH. THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM TV. THEN ALL PEOPLE WHO TAKE PART IN THE SPORTS SHOULD BE PUT AGAINST A WALL AND SHOT AND KILLED.

Re: Sports require skill... LOLWUT?
it requires physical strength and skill, especially as you get on a higher level like college or pro.
Baseball, it requires to skill to hit the ball. You can't just be strong and automatically hit it and get good contact. You need to have a very good swing. Baseball is also a big mental sport. As a batter, you have to think about what the pitcher might throw in what situation. Also, because pitchers throw so fast, you have less than a split second to decide whether or not the pitch will be a ball or a strike, and if you should swing. It also takes skill to catch a baseball, locate pitches, and field ground balls.
Football does rely on strength much more than baseball, but you'd be an idiot to say it requires no skill, or thought. The QB has to read defenses, coverages, etc. Basically, everyone has to be looking at the opposing side and thinking about what adjustments to make before the snap. It also takes skill to catch a football. Besides that, most of football probably is physical. But since when is being physically strong so terrible?
In basketball, there isn't a whole lot of tough mental labor to be honest with you, probably besides a point guard and just using basketball instincts. However, it doesn't rely on physical strength a whole lot. It takes skill to dribble a ball, it takes skill to shoot the ball, it takes skill to play defense. There are some physical parts of basketball, but again, since when is being strong so bad?
Finally, hockey. Obviously it takes physical strength to shoot the puck hard, and to hit people. However, there is skill that lies in saving pucks coming at a high speed, shooting pucks with accuracy, being able to control the puck while skating at a high speed, and in countless other things.
Your post was just flat out wrong. What makes it so funny is that you presented it as fact, like you really thought you were on to something.

It's good to have the skill to hit people!
Yeah! Being able to hit people is the most important skill there is!
Hitting people takes far more skill than it takes to do heart surgery or brain surgery, far more skill than it takes to build an astronomical telescope, far more skill than it takes to program a computer, far more skill than it takes to work on electronics.
Yeah! You're so right!
Hitting people takes a lot of skill, a very important skill to have when dealing with people out in the world.

Yeah! Thanks for setting me straight.
I'm really impressed by your great wisdom and knowledge!

Real time strategy games require subtlety to surprise your enemies so they can't counter you. Much more skillful than anything you brought up.
Coop games like Left 4 Dead require you use teamwork to win, and if you aren't a team player you will fail the team. Plus Hunters and Smokers have to watch what is going on.
And many other games. Like chess.

When did I say any of that? I say it takes PHYSICAL STRENGTH to hit people hard. There's some skill, but mainly strength.Fat Man wrote:Oh yes indeed!!!Polite24 wrote:Finally, hockey. Obviously it takes physical strength to shoot the puck hard, and to hit people.

Really, surprising people in a computer game is much harder then doing any of the things I mentioned at a pro or college level?
You gotta be kidding me. You could say the same thing about a game like Madden or NCAA Football, you have to know what plays to call and at what times in order to succeed. Same amount of skill level involved each of those.
You're starting to reach. You lost this argument, move on.

Sorry I think complex pixels that take a long time to adapt to is so much easier than something a 5 year old can do! Here's what I say to people saying sports are harder than games.

Yeah, a 5 year old can shoot a basketball, throw a baseball, catch a football, or shoot a puck. However, he'd do them at a terribly poor level, especially compared to people who play sports at a high level like college or pro.
Same goes for gamers, a beginner can do things too, but at a very poor level compared to experts.

Yeah, it takes strength to hit people hard! Not skill, but strength!
I stand corrected.
I told you, I'm a fat little retard.
Yes, hitting people is very important! It shows how strong you are, how much strength you have.
Then, when you go out into the world, everyone will be impressed by your great strength when they see how hard you can hit people.
The police will also be impressed, I'm sure.
Then you will get to go to the slammer, and have a cellmate named Bubbah.
My advice to you will be, if you're taking a shower, and you drop the soap, whatever you do, don't bend over to pick it up!

lol
hitting people hard is important when you play football or hockey. That can make them millions, which definitely helps them in everyday life.
Is being able to hit people hard useful for most people? No, not really.
And really, this argument has no point. I was agreeing with Sergey in the first place in regards to hitting people.

Yeah! But what happens when you get too old to play hockey or football anymore? What happens after you retire, and you spent all of your money?Polite24 wrote:lol

If all you know how to do is hit people hard, then your prospects for employment is not so nifty! Eh?
Oh well! You can always get a job with the MAFIA as a leg breaker, collecting bad debts.
But the law will take a rather dime view of that.
Then you will be living with Bubbah!

Re: Sports require skill... LOLWUT?
Fortunately, football and hockey players get enough money during their career to really have them set for life, even if they stopped getting paid once they retired. However, they do get retirement and all of them can live comfortably after they retire. They also make money in other ways, such as broadcasting, coaching, or getting involved with management with a team.
