THE INQUISITION - 20 Videos - Please Watch And Reply!

Post by Fat Man »

Here are the links to 20 YouTube videos on the Inquisition.

These are excellent videos with really good picture and sound quality.

As you all know, I'm a real Inquisition buff. It has always been one of my most favorite historical topics. Yes, reading about the Inquisition is very depressing, and it stirs up great anger in me, but I seek the truth at all costs. Even if it hurts to read about it!

I have read many books on the Inquisition. When I was not allowed to check out certain books from my school library, there was always the public library. I was only in the 5th grade when I became keenly aware of the Inquisition.

That's one of the reasons why I became more rebellious toward authority when I was just a kid.

I drink of knowledge as lesser men drink of booze!

Yeah, I do like my beer sometimes, but knowledge is my booze!

I can really grok this!

To grok (pronounced /Ë?É¡rÉ?k/) is to share the same reality or line of thinking with another physical or conceptual entity. Author Robert A. Heinlein coined the term in his best-selling 1961 book Stranger in a Strange Land. In Heinlein's view, grokking is the intermingling of intelligence that necessarily affects both the observer and the observed. From the novel:

Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observedâ??to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and scienceâ??and it means as little to us (because of our Earthly assumptions) as color means to a blind man.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines grok as "to understand intuitively or by empathy; to establish rapport with" and "to empathize or communicate sympathetically (with); also, to experience enjoyment." Other forms of the word include "groks" (present third person singular), "grokked" (past participle) and "grokking" (present participle).

In an ideological context, a grokked concept becomes part of the person who contributes to its evolution by improving the doctrine, perpetuating the myth, espousing the belief, adding detail to the social plan, refining the idea or proofing the theory.

Grok, also means, to drink.

So, do please watch these videos, and grok of this with me. OK?

Also, I would appreciate any comments you all might have to offer to my topic.

And so . . . . . without further ado . . . . .

I present to you . . . . .

THE INQUISITION

Please, grok this with me!

OK?

This series documents the Church's efforts to consolidate its power by stamping out heterodoxy and heresy through the office of the Inquisition. The history of the Inquisition is traced across different periods and geographies, from medieval France to its present day incarnation as the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

I have always thought that the Inquisition officially ended with the last person being burned at the stake in Mexico back in 1830.

But last year, one of my Jewish friends here in El Paso Texas told me of his great grandfather who was falsely accused of witchcraft and was burned at the stake in Mexico sometime in the 1840s.

Then, if you watch the last 5 videos, you'll learn that the Inquisition really didn't end until some time back in 1858.

Of course, now, the Office of The Inquisition has been renamed The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

So, I just gotta wonder . . . . .

Is the Inquisition still on??? Eh?

Somebody please tell me it isn't so!!!

I am only 12-13 minutes in, but it does look interesting.
It's probably far better than anything on TV at the moment.
I probably won't comment again until tomorrow, since the entire thing is over 3 hours long.

I guess one could say you're a fan of "Shiner knowledge" (since you seek knowledge even when it smacks you the eye).

AIN'T SO! The Catholic Church is really dying out. My mother and I (former Catholics) watched when they made that German guy into "Pope Benedict". There were maybe 3 or 4 priests who were being made into bishops or something at the same ceremony. She told me that in her day, it would have more like 30 or 40. Nobody wants to enter the priesthood these days. (If they simply allowed women to become priests or allowed priests to marry they might have a shot, but they won't, so they don't.)

Nah, Catholics are the least of Jewish people's problems these days. :(

Well, somebody please tell that to Richard Bennett, a former Catholic priest.

I just finished watching a 58 minute long YouTube video made by him.

Who is Pope Benedict XVI?

As Cardinal he headed up what had been the Inquisition and changed the name to The Holy Office of The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. He compiled the book, The New Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994) in which he declares his position in paragraph 882, "The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter's successor, is the perpetual and physical source foundation of the unity, both of the Bishops and whole company of the faithful. For the Roman Pontiff by reason of his office as the vicar of the Christ and pastor of the entire Church has full , supreme and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered.

----------------------------------------

He's been talking about the Ecomunical Movement, and many Christian Fundamentalists and Evangelists embrace the movement, and many of them are sucking up to the Vatican. He as also talked about the Inquisition, and how the Popes have declared themselves the Vicar of Christ on Earth, another words, practically proclaiming themselves God!

This ex-priest is warning what happens to countries who sign a concordant with the Vatican. All the other Christian churches in those countries have lost their rights, and in some cases, those churches have been shut down by the police.

And if the USA decides to sign a concordant with the Vatican, the same could happen here, and then, there goes our Constitutional rights, and there will be no more separation of church and state, and Fundamentalist Christian churches here might lose their rights as well.

Now, while I do think that a lot of Christian Fundamentalists are kind of whacko, especially J T Chick with his cute little miniature Christian comic book tracts, well . . .

I'm afraid that I have to agree with J T Chick, when in some of his tracts, he also warns about the dangers of the Ecomunical Movement.

J T Chick says that The Anti-Christ will be some Pope in the Vatican, and even Sir Isaac Newton, a 17th Century scientist and mathematician once said that the Catholic Church is the Great Whore of Babylon as depicted in Revelations.

As I have said, I firmly disagree with Christian Fundamentalists, especially for wanting to insert Creationism into high school science text books. I think that on that accord, they should just butt out and leave science education alone.

But I don't want to see anybody lose the right to practice their own religions, even the ones I strongly disagree with.

Yeah! This is weird. I never thought that I would find myself agreeing with J T Chick on something. Will wonders ever cease???

Some of these Television Evangelists like Pat Robertson and many of these TV Preachers, if they are embracing the Ecomunical Movement, and sucking up to the Vatican, then they're even more stupid than I thought!

I just hope that the Catholic Church is on it's last legs, dying out, as you have said.

Maybe it is. One can only hope.

But Richard Bennett, the ex-priest believe that the Vatican is a threat.

And who should know more, than an ex-priest who's been there and then left the church? Eh?

**** A RANT ABOUT THE VIDEOS (I'm still only 1/4 of the way through.) ****

Here's an update on Fat Man's Inquisition videos, which I strongly recommend to everyone:

At the end of Episode 1, Part 5, the Grand Inquisitor is debating religion with this old converted Jewish guy named "Baruch." Apparently the debate went on for 59 days, and at the end of it the Grand Inquisitor just gives up, throws up his arms and says to Baruch: "Convert or die..." I mean, seriously, if you are just going to do that what is the point in having a debate for 59 straight days?

You guys have got to see these videos. There are these two lovers, a noble woman and her town's priest, who basically "commit heresy" by screwing everything on two legs. They begin by sleeping with each other.

These people are totally nuts.

Cheers,
RF

EDIT: Okay, before you guys all flame and ban me. Please understand that I wrote the above statement before I knew how horrible Episode 2 was going to be. Episode 2 really is goshawful. I still recommend the videos, I guess, but after the initial story about the horny noble woman and the dirty priest there is nothing even remotely funny about them!

Ouch. "Convert or die" becomes a bit more serious in the second episode. The Christians go around forcing everyone in Spain to convert. Not so funny. Sorry. Oh well...

The Inquisition still comes across as totally nuts in the second episode, but the humour is wearing off and they have simply become scary.

EDIT: Fat Man, the deeper I get into Episode 2 (about the mass persecution of Spanish Jews) the more sickening it gets. Do you want to talk to us about why these videos appeal to you? I think they demonstrate how human beings can (collectively) go insane together. But I would like to hear your take. The most difficult part for me to deal with is how logical everything seems to the people who are involved. They have all these persecution rituals; they have all these rules about when you can or can't torture people. What does it all mean???
