Fistacinang!

No, seriously, it is, really. :)

Oh, the thought just occurred to me that the context of a misspelled word can be quite helpful in figuring out its correct spelling.

That's really interesting. I find it fascinating how the brain works.

I remember seeing this at one of my old schools:

Now, sports fans and jocks would be able to say the correct colors without any problem at all since most of them can't read text.

I've seen that a few times before. But I've also heard that it's false before. That passage uses common words that are just simple to assume. But there are some words that contain the same letters as others which creates a flaw in this. There are also words that are either too uncommon or complex for this to work. For example:

Pshsotyhnoiset
"Mensa membership conceding, tell my why and how are all the stupid people breeding?" - The Idiots Are Taking Over - NOFX

"Basis of change: educate - derived from discussion, not hate, not myth, not muscle, not etiquette" - Hate, Myth, Muscle, Etiquette - Propagandhi

"We need to teach our kids that it's not just the winner of the Superbowl who deserves to be celebrated, but the winner of the science fair" - Barack Obama

It spells cellular respiration backwards, right?

Haha, well, I can see recovering_fan got it.

Edit: Although I now realize that my word didn't even have the correct last letter, as when I was rearranging the letters, I must have forgot to put the last letter at the end of the word. My bad, although I may try to form a difficult sentence or paragraph later if I have the time.

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to play dumb here because I honestly don't know what it is. Can you tell me the actual word? Even recovering_fan's hint didn't allow me to coin onto it. I'll get to work on making the Dunce hat now. :D

Here's another word that also would be hard for the mind to unjumble:

Ugnintungsängefchsuers

Are you stumped already? Well, you'll have a better chance of getting it if you have a German friend around.

It was photosynthesis, which is the opposite of cellular respiration. And I have no idea what your word was, although I'm completely unfamiliar with the German language.

Okay, I'm going to rearrange the word structure of each word from a passage that I have randomly chosen from a certain piece of work that I'm fairly certain no one here is familiar with:

"Tihs lsat qseoiutn alpeips to eervy dionietfifn or qciutlaoifian of pgersros gvien. If we aumsse taht pesgrors is no mroe tahn cpmelixtoy, tehn perosgrs has no mainneg osudtie of our dntoieiifn of cxmiepolty. The olny tinhg taht geivs cxemitploy any mnineag is the fcat taht we amidre cpmelox steysms and darsipage similicpty. Whotiut tihs vulae dnmseioin we mgiht as well see ceoixmplty as a rsluet of nuaatrl stlcoeien and lvaee it at taht"

Wow, that took some time. There probably are a few errors, but it should be mostly correct. Now when I read over it, I can recite the whole package from reading my jumbled text without pausing at all, but it may be because I've been working on rearranging this passage a lot and I've simply become very familiar with it. Obviously there are some words that are completely obvious and will be very easy to figure out, and there are also words that you may figure out because they have been repeated in the passage so much. Well, good luck with solving it anyway.

Well, you win. It's not impossible to read this, but it's a lot harder than the passage Fat Man gave us to read. Hope you still managed to get some of your homework done last night! :)

(If I had to guess, I would say this was something Richard Dawkins wrote.)

Well, I bid you the best of luck. Something to keep everyone here busy. This thread's proving to be quite interesting with several members doing their own take on this "interpreting jumbled up letters as words" theme. Keep 'em coming. :D

Oh, and HugeFanOfBadReligion, I think I've got your paragraph now. Would it be okay for me to type out the correct version? Or shall I keep everyone else thinking?

Actually, I don't have any homework this week because I wrote all my exams on Friday and Monday so there are no classes and the semester is over. I've just got to come in to school tomorrow if I want to see what marks I got on the exams, and the next semester starts on Tuesday. And it was actually something Greg Graffin wrote in his dissertation.

And feel free to post what you got for my paragraph i_like_1981, I don't mind. Unless other users wish to attempt to figure it out too, but that's not my decision, and I'm sure they can just not read your post until after they've figured it out or attempted to.

Untersuchungsgefängnis

At least, that's what I came up with, after using Google.DE and Google Translate for a while.

The word was popular with East Germans (or, I suppose, quite un-popular) during the Cold War.

---

i_like_1981 can probably tell you whether this is correct, but I think this word means "prison where the accused are held while being investigated."

"Untersuchung" means "investigation", while "Gefängnis" means "prison" (according to Google's translator). Together that makes "investigation prison."
