I've added a short comment on the article which probably sums up every member's thoughts on it.
What a load of crap. I sincerely doubt there is one shred of evidence to back up this unsupported claim. I'll write the author and ask. If there is any evidence at all I'll bet it's an unscientific survey sponsored by Sports Illustrated that consisted of the author calling her friends and asking their opinion.Amazingly, psychologists have discovered that men and women who have a strong affinity toward a team are more likely to have higher self-esteem, have a truer sense of community, suffer less depression, and are more likely to be associated with groups than are non-fans.
So, in essence, the crazier the sports nut, the more emotionally sound he/she is.
