Boston-area school faces prospect of no sports teams
This should make a cheerful day for all (except sports bores).

Extreme? You got that wrong, lady. Extreme is sacrificing academics for athletics in a school, not the other way around.

Wow, these idiots just can't imagine life without high school sports. I don't often see that much bullshit in one article.

Yes, it really is JUST A GAME.

Re: Boston-area school faces prospect of no sports teams
GREAT article! People are finally coming to their senses and voting to bring spending on high school sports down to an equitable level.
That Nancy Kerrigan is kind of cute. I think I'll google the town, Stoneham, Mass, and find a local forum to join and lend some support to "our" side of the subject...

Check this out.. someone made a whole BLOG dedicated to saving Stoneham High School sports! Save the Spartans!!
http://www.savethespartans.com
Among MANY other lamentations:
"We think very little of paying exorbitant prices for star athletes, exclusive seats, memorabilia and team insignia-laden clothing, but won't support our young people. The benefits of athletic participation for girls are well known, better grades and graduation rates, less osteoporosis and breast cancer, lower substance abuse, fewer teen pregnancies, increased self-esteem and lower depression rates."
he he he
he forgot to mention that sports cures warts and lowers taxes!

And peace on earth. Don't forget that! Plus it makes your teeth whiter and cures acne.

Yes, it really is JUST A GAME.

oh! you're right --they do always make that claim, don't they? World peace and fosters international relations!

Re: Boston-area school faces prospect of no sports teams
Well, I wouldn't be too quick to mock the claim on disease control, exercise is useful. But helping foster peace? Well the Greeks would briefly delay wars for the Olympics, but that's delay, not end. Other than that, sports are pretty much irrelevant. Supposedly sports results in higher self-esteem which lowers teen pregnancy, but I'm sure that's not always the case. Statistically speaking girls are less likely to have sex that are in sports but guys are more likely, so it kind of evens out.

Wow, what beautiful news. Nice Christmas present!

"We believe in Vader, the Darth almighty, destroyer of Alderaan and the Sith. We believe in Luke, his only son, our Jedi. He was concieved by the power of the Force, and born of the senator Padme. Suffered under Darth Sidius, electrocuted, survived and partied with Ewoks. He descended to the Death Star, on the third hour he flew out in an Imperial ship and landed on Endor. He is seated on the right hand of Obi-Wan's ghost. He will come again to train Leia to be a Jedi. We believe? in Yoda.........

Yeah I hear you. That monstrosity called the "Super Bowel" must be vanquished.Moviemaker wrote:Now, if we can only assimilate the rest of the nation.

I used to watch that thing just for the commercials. Can you believe how lame that is? So far I know only know four guys that do that, and I plan to reduce that number by one.
Re: Boston-area school faces prospect of no sports teams
Actually that's not the first time I've heard that. So I don't doubt with what you said, frankly I don't even know what day the super bowl is.natmanhan wrote:I used to watch that thing just for the commercials. Can you believe how lame that is? Isn't it usually on Sundays? I think I heard that somewhere. Not that it really matters -- it sucks!

Yeah, it's on a Sunday. All I know is, I won't be watching it!
I've never actually watched it for the commercials, but a couple of years ago I switched to the Stupid Bowl a few times (I hope I don't get thrown off the board to jeers of "Sports Bore!" for this confession) to try and catch some of the commercials just to see what the big deal was.
I wasn't impressed, to be honest (well, there was one that was kind of cool, I think for Coke or something). Although, I later heard that the commercials pretty much sucked that year, so maybe I shouldn't make judgments or anything. However, I'm not really interested enough to do it again.

Re: Boston-area school faces prospect of no sports teams
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's on Sunday, my parents used to make me go back to church for it after regular church. It seems like they try experimental ads for the super bowl. BK probably would've used it as an opportunity for their whopper virgins ads if not for it already being out there. Speaking of which, I think if we made use of that word an offense that someone could be banned for and it wasn't retroactive we'd probably lose all the sports bores and no one else.
